S4E01: Majora's Mask -or- Bad Moon Rising

Derick from the Underrated movie podcast and RiRiYells from Twitch cared who Link was before he put on the mask, so they’re both back to talk about The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask (N64, 2000) as they join Mike and Jaymo to launch Season 4 of The Old SwitchAroo’s epic quest to research and review every retro game in Nintendo Switch Online’s Nintendo Classics catalog!

In this episode, we talk about Majora’s Mask’s origins in an intended redesign of Ocarina of Time called Ura Zelda, how game development crunch time was so intense that it became a feature of NPC dialogue, and correct some misconceptions about the origins of the name Majora. Plus we start the season with double the mini-games, with RiRi giving a read of the rest of the panel based on their favorite masks and Two Masks and a Lie dipping into everyone’s past costumes.

Thanks for listening, and a very special thanks to Kristal Fields of The Lazy Circles for our catchy theme song! 1
00:00:28,040 --> 00:00:30,760
Well, tingle, tingle, Kula
limpa, everyone.

2
00:00:30,800 --> 00:00:34,160
Which roughly translates means
welcome to Season 4 of the old

3
00:00:34,160 --> 00:00:37,320
switcheroo where we're talking
gaming retro with Mike and Jamo.

4
00:00:37,560 --> 00:00:40,040
I'm Mike.
And I'm Jamo, join us on our

5
00:00:40,040 --> 00:00:43,160
epic quest to research and
review all 300 plus games in the

6
00:00:43,160 --> 00:00:46,640
Nintendo Classics catalog.
Today we are groundhogs dating

7
00:00:46,640 --> 00:00:49,280
our way through The Legend of
Zelda Majora's Mask for the

8
00:00:49,280 --> 00:00:54,960
Nintendo 64 in an episode that
we are calling Bad Moon Rising.

9
00:00:56,000 --> 00:00:59,680
Now, Mike, I bet you already
have something critical to say

10
00:00:59,680 --> 00:01:02,280
about my title, don't you?
I mean my first point was going

11
00:01:02,280 --> 00:01:04,400
to be your title slides the
wrong title, but.

12
00:01:05,280 --> 00:01:07,920
I was going to.
Say they can't see this, Mike.

13
00:01:07,920 --> 00:01:11,080
It's a podcast.
I know, which is why I had to

14
00:01:11,080 --> 00:01:13,280
tell him what you did wrong,
right?

15
00:01:13,600 --> 00:01:17,040
Excellent Rising.
I I suppose you want me to point

16
00:01:17,040 --> 00:01:20,200
out that rising is the wrong
direction, I thought.

17
00:01:20,560 --> 00:01:23,320
I just want you to disagree so I
could ask for a second opinion.

18
00:01:23,320 --> 00:01:26,600
Mike, I believe you have someone
who is wonderful at Zelda

19
00:01:26,600 --> 00:01:28,040
opinions.
Would you like to introduce her?

20
00:01:28,320 --> 00:01:31,800
Yeah, rounding up the four
giants for this episode, we'll

21
00:01:31,800 --> 00:01:35,440
start off with our returning
Zelda consultant, Rhode Island

22
00:01:35,440 --> 00:01:38,880
Rhode.
ISLAND, Hi, glad to be back.

23
00:01:39,600 --> 00:01:40,560
Good to have you back, Rhode
Island.

24
00:01:40,560 --> 00:01:42,720
Rhode Island playing a game
that's not quite as glitchy as

25
00:01:42,720 --> 00:01:46,000
Little Nightmares 3.
Oh well, you know, there's still

26
00:01:46,000 --> 00:01:47,960
some jank don't worry about.
It there's a little.

27
00:01:48,120 --> 00:01:50,040
Bit of jank we'll get into it
get.

28
00:01:50,200 --> 00:01:52,880
Yours got a little jank and
well, you know, speaking a

29
00:01:52,880 --> 00:01:54,760
little jank here.
I don't know what that means,

30
00:01:54,800 --> 00:01:59,280
but we couldn't, we couldn't
take the mask to task without

31
00:01:59,280 --> 00:02:02,480
the game's greatest nemesis.
Please welcome back to the show

32
00:02:02,480 --> 00:02:05,040
Derek Mcduff from the Underrated
Movie podcast.

33
00:02:05,320 --> 00:02:08,039
Derek, how does it feel to face
off with this game once again?

34
00:02:08,280 --> 00:02:11,560
Oh man, you know this me and
this game, we have quite a

35
00:02:11,680 --> 00:02:14,000
history.
So I'm, I'm ready.

36
00:02:14,000 --> 00:02:16,320
I'm back.
The man is back versus the mask.

37
00:02:16,720 --> 00:02:19,120
We're gonna get into it.
I can't wait to talk about it.

38
00:02:19,120 --> 00:02:22,600
So everyone, without further
ado, let's dive into Majora's

39
00:02:22,600 --> 00:02:27,360
Mask on the N64, released in the
year 2000.

40
00:02:39,320 --> 00:02:42,520
As described on Nintendo's
classics, it's a race to stop

41
00:02:42,520 --> 00:02:45,200
the moon and save the world.
Upon landing in the mystical

42
00:02:45,200 --> 00:02:48,640
world of Termina, Link must
embark an urgent quest to solve

43
00:02:48,640 --> 00:02:52,440
the mystery of the moon, save
the world from destruction, and

44
00:02:52,440 --> 00:02:56,040
find his way back to the
peaceful land of Hyrule in just

45
00:02:56,040 --> 00:02:58,440
three days.
Use the Ocarina's power to

46
00:02:58,440 --> 00:03:02,080
manipulate time and plan your
schedule as you solve mind

47
00:03:02,080 --> 00:03:06,080
boggling puzzles and dungeons.
I don't know, pretty hyped

48
00:03:06,080 --> 00:03:07,120
description.
You guys ready?

49
00:03:07,600 --> 00:03:09,400
I yeah, I love planning
schedules.

50
00:03:09,680 --> 00:03:10,120
Really.
That's.

51
00:03:10,160 --> 00:03:12,880
What I was laughing at?
The most exciting part of any

52
00:03:12,880 --> 00:03:16,400
day, honestly.
Put that on the back of the box.

53
00:03:16,960 --> 00:03:19,080
And also, I don't know that
there's a mystery there.

54
00:03:19,080 --> 00:03:20,720
I don't know if there's a
mystery of the moon as much as

55
00:03:20,720 --> 00:03:22,560
like, it's coming.
It's gonna smash you.

56
00:03:22,880 --> 00:03:25,200
Yeah, but not in a good way.
Yeah.

57
00:03:26,400 --> 00:03:28,400
No, like.
But that mystery is never

58
00:03:28,400 --> 00:03:30,400
solved.
They never really quite explain.

59
00:03:30,800 --> 00:03:32,680
That sort of.
Kind of, sort of.

60
00:03:33,480 --> 00:03:36,200
So let's take a look at the box
art, since that was often

61
00:03:36,200 --> 00:03:38,560
people's first impressions in
North America.

62
00:03:38,560 --> 00:03:41,520
You have the traditional Legend
of Zelda font, this time in a

63
00:03:41,520 --> 00:03:43,880
reflective purple instead of the
traditional red.

64
00:03:44,040 --> 00:03:46,680
Instead of a shield, you have
the titular spiked Majora mask

65
00:03:46,680 --> 00:03:49,720
with its signature bulbous eyes
gazing directly at the customer

66
00:03:49,920 --> 00:03:53,280
as a rainbow of colors explode
from behind it in all

67
00:03:53,280 --> 00:03:55,280
directions.
I don't know, Mike.

68
00:03:55,480 --> 00:03:56,960
I kind of love this one.
What do you think?

69
00:03:56,960 --> 00:03:58,240
I.
Don't know I.

70
00:03:58,280 --> 00:04:01,240
Think that the way that this
puts the mask right behind the

71
00:04:01,240 --> 00:04:04,480
Z, but you have purple and kind
of like a dark blue.

72
00:04:05,000 --> 00:04:08,640
I think the Z and the mask kind
of blend together more than I'd

73
00:04:08,640 --> 00:04:12,000
like.
Derek RiRi, what do you think?

74
00:04:12,200 --> 00:04:14,080
Immaculate.
Thank you.

75
00:04:14,240 --> 00:04:19,000
Yeah, hard agree.
For me, obsessed yes, I love it

76
00:04:19,000 --> 00:04:22,520
so much because it's it's the
classic Zelda logo, right?

77
00:04:22,800 --> 00:04:26,200
But it's with a unique twist,
like right, you said, just

78
00:04:26,200 --> 00:04:28,720
pointed out this is the first
time they don't use that red and

79
00:04:28,720 --> 00:04:30,520
they use something besides Link
Shield and the other ones.

80
00:04:30,520 --> 00:04:32,400
It's always been OK, here's Link
shield in this game.

81
00:04:32,400 --> 00:04:34,920
But it's like, Oh no, this is
something to do with the

82
00:04:34,920 --> 00:04:37,040
antagonist.
This is a little bit different

83
00:04:37,040 --> 00:04:39,800
and the purple, it's a little
bit spicy.

84
00:04:39,800 --> 00:04:42,920
Those eyes, I cannot look away
from those masks eyes.

85
00:04:42,920 --> 00:04:46,360
I have to know what the hell
that is and why it's looking at

86
00:04:46,360 --> 00:04:49,520
me like that.
It was a fight.

87
00:04:49,760 --> 00:04:51,920
It scared me like as a young
kid.

88
00:04:52,040 --> 00:04:55,200
Like, absolutely.
You see this like from a 20 feet

89
00:04:55,200 --> 00:04:57,440
away at Target.
You have to look back.

90
00:04:57,800 --> 00:05:02,000
It's such a powerful image.
And I also just like the

91
00:05:02,000 --> 00:05:03,560
expansion pack required.
I know.

92
00:05:03,960 --> 00:05:05,880
You're going to mention that?
I don't know, RiRi.

93
00:05:05,880 --> 00:05:08,080
Like I feel like it gets me
hyped.

94
00:05:08,080 --> 00:05:10,400
Like this game requires a little
extra boost.

95
00:05:10,400 --> 00:05:13,920
It must be pretty cool.
The expansion pack though was

96
00:05:13,960 --> 00:05:17,040
just from memory if I recall.
But it was one of only two games

97
00:05:17,040 --> 00:05:19,440
to require it.
It was this thing, Donkey Kong

98
00:05:19,440 --> 00:05:21,760
64.
Because they needed to sell

99
00:05:21,760 --> 00:05:25,640
those expansion packs.
Well, it Donkey Kong 64 came

100
00:05:25,640 --> 00:05:29,840
with the expansion, so I had it
and I will say they they do a

101
00:05:29,840 --> 00:05:32,600
lot of stuff with the expansion
pack where I didn't.

102
00:05:32,680 --> 00:05:34,320
They don't think about it so
much when you're a kid, but

103
00:05:34,440 --> 00:05:38,320
going back and replaying both
these on as an adult, a lot of

104
00:05:38,320 --> 00:05:41,800
the textures and stuff are a lot
more intricate in this game,

105
00:05:41,960 --> 00:05:44,040
whereas there was a lot of the
stuff in the background would be

106
00:05:44,040 --> 00:05:45,800
like these two D kind of like
pictures.

107
00:05:45,800 --> 00:05:47,800
They would just slap on stuff
where it's a lot.

108
00:05:47,800 --> 00:05:51,480
A lot of the environments are a
lot more in depth because of

109
00:05:51,480 --> 00:05:54,520
that expansion pack here.
Yeah, yeah, the cardboarding

110
00:05:54,520 --> 00:05:57,160
effect of the old game is
essentially gone.

111
00:05:57,360 --> 00:05:59,720
Right, there's not as much
diorama stuff in this one.

112
00:06:00,080 --> 00:06:01,880
But like Ray Ray's like, you
know, they had to sell those

113
00:06:01,880 --> 00:06:03,680
expansion packs.
So anytime I had a game that

114
00:06:03,680 --> 00:06:05,760
needed it and I had it, I felt
like Elite.

115
00:06:06,000 --> 00:06:07,360
I was like, yeah, don't even
worry about it.

116
00:06:07,360 --> 00:06:09,080
I got expansion packs.
Like, you know, I tell my

117
00:06:09,080 --> 00:06:12,320
friends is I'm sticking out of
the 64 and like everyone knows

118
00:06:12,320 --> 00:06:14,880
that you have.
That's the cynic in me though.

119
00:06:14,880 --> 00:06:18,680
Honestly I just think that they
that's still better than

120
00:06:18,680 --> 00:06:20,960
releasing a broken game.
OK.

121
00:06:21,080 --> 00:06:24,360
Like my adult perspective is
that, well, they could have just

122
00:06:24,360 --> 00:06:27,600
released a a shit glitchy game,
you know what I mean?

123
00:06:27,760 --> 00:06:31,640
I feel like that would have
happened sometimes, so at least

124
00:06:31,640 --> 00:06:32,840
they didn't.
Do that little nightmare.

125
00:06:33,200 --> 00:06:33,560
Oh cop.
Oh.

126
00:06:34,760 --> 00:06:37,320
Sorry, Zelda or Pokémon ZA.
Oh.

127
00:06:37,960 --> 00:06:41,600
Oh, oh, it's glitchy, Nintendo.
Oh, it's it's I love Pokémon,

128
00:06:41,600 --> 00:06:44,920
but oh man did.
You play Violet and Scarlet on

129
00:06:44,920 --> 00:06:46,560
the Switch 1.
Yes, I did.

130
00:06:46,600 --> 00:06:49,240
The memory leak on that was
atrocious.

131
00:06:49,240 --> 00:06:51,840
Yeah, it was, It was, it was
rough sometimes it was.

132
00:06:53,240 --> 00:06:55,440
I gotta say perfect on switch
too though.

133
00:06:55,560 --> 00:06:57,000
Absolutely perfect.
That's what I hear.

134
00:06:57,480 --> 00:07:00,240
To the point I'm convinced that
they developed it for switch too

135
00:07:00,760 --> 00:07:03,760
and like it's not right so they
just released it.

136
00:07:04,080 --> 00:07:06,080
Well, like this one, you know,
like, it makes sense that this

137
00:07:06,080 --> 00:07:08,680
had the expansion back because
this was like toward the very

138
00:07:08,680 --> 00:07:12,040
end of the N64's life cycle,
like by a few months

139
00:07:12,040 --> 00:07:13,800
practically.
So it makes sense that like,

140
00:07:13,800 --> 00:07:16,400
this is outdated software.
We need to like really beef it

141
00:07:16,400 --> 00:07:19,200
up a little bit to have this
very ambitious game be able to

142
00:07:19,200 --> 00:07:21,200
play on it.
Yeah, I was shocked this game

143
00:07:21,200 --> 00:07:23,880
came out post Dreamcast.
And then like you look at it and

144
00:07:23,880 --> 00:07:25,080
you're like, wow, like good for
them.

145
00:07:25,080 --> 00:07:27,680
They were competing with much
more powerful systems at the

146
00:07:27,680 --> 00:07:31,480
time, and I don't know.
So Derek, I want to show you the

147
00:07:31,480 --> 00:07:33,800
Japanese box art.
Have you seen this one?

148
00:07:34,120 --> 00:07:35,720
I have.
I haven't seen it in this

149
00:07:35,720 --> 00:07:38,800
context, but I've seen this art.
Yeah, so for those who can't see

150
00:07:38,800 --> 00:07:42,320
it, it's still got the logo and
you have Link writing Epona

151
00:07:42,320 --> 00:07:45,640
towards the customer and then
looming in the background or all

152
00:07:45,640 --> 00:07:49,040
of the characters.
You have the boss monsters and

153
00:07:49,040 --> 00:07:52,040
some of your allies, but they're
all covered in shadow and

154
00:07:52,040 --> 00:07:54,880
looking really sinister.
Like I think it's kind of a sort

155
00:07:54,880 --> 00:07:58,000
of ghostly design.
Mike, is this 1 fair any better

156
00:07:58,000 --> 00:07:58,280
for?
You.

157
00:07:58,280 --> 00:08:02,120
I think this one's a lot better.
And also because the Zelda font

158
00:08:02,320 --> 00:08:07,200
is brighter, there's more
contrast between it and the IT

159
00:08:07,200 --> 00:08:10,600
and the mask there.
The other one looks like the

160
00:08:10,600 --> 00:08:13,560
Legend of Elda to me.
This one is clearly.

161
00:08:14,040 --> 00:08:17,160
Dollar store knock off.
This one also kind of matches

162
00:08:17,200 --> 00:08:20,160
the OOT Japanese art.
It mirrors it in a way, right?

163
00:08:20,160 --> 00:08:22,800
Wasn't that 1A grayscale Link
writing opponent?

164
00:08:23,280 --> 00:08:26,000
This one is like a rainbow Link
writing opponent, so I kind of

165
00:08:26,000 --> 00:08:27,640
like that.
Yeah, that's cool.

166
00:08:27,720 --> 00:08:29,080
This feels like a Trapper
Keeper.

167
00:08:31,080 --> 00:08:35,039
Very, very 2000, right?
That rainbow gradient there?

168
00:08:35,360 --> 00:08:38,360
Did any of you have the the
lenticular sticker?

169
00:08:38,600 --> 00:08:40,280
Yes.
Yep, me too.

170
00:08:40,400 --> 00:08:43,240
Me too.
So is was it just a 3D image of

171
00:08:43,240 --> 00:08:45,960
link or was it one of those ones
where like it made link move?

172
00:08:46,320 --> 00:08:49,480
Oh yeah, no, it depends on where
you, like, looked at it.

173
00:08:49,480 --> 00:08:54,000
It shifted on the art it I think
it was the letters would shift

174
00:08:54,120 --> 00:08:55,440
behind him.
That's dope.

175
00:08:55,560 --> 00:08:57,440
Yeah, I think he would move a
little, like a little too.

176
00:08:57,440 --> 00:08:59,920
Yeah, I, I still have it.
I think around here somewhere in

177
00:08:59,920 --> 00:09:03,000
like my closet.
I, I loved, I loved that cart.

178
00:09:03,360 --> 00:09:06,080
Oh man.
Yeah, it was the first gold

179
00:09:06,080 --> 00:09:07,840
Zelda cartridge I had.
Same.

180
00:09:08,200 --> 00:09:10,480
It just looks sick.
It's just good on them.

181
00:09:11,760 --> 00:09:14,240
Here's what they should have
done on this cover art.

182
00:09:14,600 --> 00:09:18,040
They should have given a little
bit of a 3D effect to set the

183
00:09:18,040 --> 00:09:20,920
eyes and the mask back a little
bit so that the eyes would

184
00:09:20,920 --> 00:09:23,360
follow you.
Creepy.

185
00:09:24,160 --> 00:09:28,000
I already had nightmares made.
You want a, you want a Haunted

186
00:09:28,000 --> 00:09:30,320
Mansion, this thing that's.
What I was thinking, yeah, yeah.

187
00:09:30,840 --> 00:09:35,200
So Majora's Mask was directed by
Yoshiaki Koizumi, who wrote the

188
00:09:35,200 --> 00:09:41,280
script for Lynx Awakening, and
IG Anuma, who unsurprisingly

189
00:09:41,280 --> 00:09:45,280
directed which game Mike.
I'm not sure so I'm randomly

190
00:09:45,280 --> 00:09:47,400
going to guess kicks because.
When, I'm just kidding, it was

191
00:09:47,400 --> 00:09:51,560
Ocarina of Time.
Anuma was we discussed that one

192
00:09:51,560 --> 00:09:53,440
on on that episode, I believe,
yeah.

193
00:09:53,880 --> 00:09:58,640
Yeah, so according to a 2009
Awada Asks interview for

194
00:09:58,640 --> 00:10:02,160
Nintendo's website, Majora's
Mask was originally developed as

195
00:10:02,160 --> 00:10:06,520
a remixed UDA version of Ocarina
of Time, to be released on the

196
00:10:06,520 --> 00:10:10,520
ill-fated 64DD expansion.
It was originally conceived as a

197
00:10:10,560 --> 00:10:14,560
flipped Bizarro World Zelda
universe, but now Numa expressed

198
00:10:14,560 --> 00:10:18,040
a lack of enthusiasm in simply
rearranging and rewriting

199
00:10:18,040 --> 00:10:20,280
Ocarina.
Producer Shigedo Miyamoto

200
00:10:20,280 --> 00:10:24,160
challenged them to make an all
new game in one year by reusing

201
00:10:24,160 --> 00:10:27,360
Ocarina's assets.
Buddha Zelda would later be

202
00:10:27,360 --> 00:10:31,320
finished by a different team and
retitled Master Quest, which was

203
00:10:31,320 --> 00:10:35,080
released for the GameCube.
When people pre-ordered Wind

204
00:10:35,080 --> 00:10:36,920
Waker, did you guys ever play
Master Quest?

205
00:10:37,400 --> 00:10:38,720
Yes, yes, I did.
Yeah.

206
00:10:38,760 --> 00:10:42,880
I had that little pack and I
think it came with a soundtrack

207
00:10:42,880 --> 00:10:45,360
CD if I recall.
It was so cool.

208
00:10:45,520 --> 00:10:48,480
Yeah, because I got it with it
was like a bonus disc you got

209
00:10:48,480 --> 00:10:51,680
for pre ordering Wind Waker, I
want to say.

210
00:10:51,880 --> 00:10:54,240
Is it better than the vanilla
game?

211
00:10:54,240 --> 00:10:56,400
No, it's much worse.
Master Quest.

212
00:10:58,600 --> 00:11:01,640
I just, I just like it.
I like it in randomizer, I

213
00:11:01,640 --> 00:11:05,080
really do, because when you play
over and over again, if you've

214
00:11:05,080 --> 00:11:08,640
played a lot of Ocarina, Master
quest UPS the ante.

215
00:11:08,640 --> 00:11:10,200
Keeps it interesting, keeps it
fresh.

216
00:11:10,200 --> 00:11:11,880
It is harder.
Yeah, yeah.

217
00:11:11,920 --> 00:11:14,520
I was wondering like, was it
kind of the first randomizer of

218
00:11:14,520 --> 00:11:17,240
sorts?
It's not randomized, it's just

219
00:11:18,480 --> 00:11:22,160
remix kind of like, I mean, how
do I say this?

220
00:11:22,320 --> 00:11:25,400
There weren't difficulty levels
on games as much back then,

221
00:11:25,400 --> 00:11:27,240
right?
So it's kind of like bumping up

222
00:11:27,240 --> 00:11:30,240
the difficulty level on like
Couture or something, right?

223
00:11:30,920 --> 00:11:32,160
That was really what it felt
like.

224
00:11:32,160 --> 00:11:35,520
The whole game was just harder.
Yeah, it was the same game.

225
00:11:35,880 --> 00:11:38,120
Yeah, it's the same game, just
different.

226
00:11:38,400 --> 00:11:40,480
Yeah, different dungeons,
different dungeons.

227
00:11:40,480 --> 00:11:42,480
And sometimes, though, some of
the stuff wouldn't necessarily,

228
00:11:42,480 --> 00:11:44,680
like, make sense thematically,
which is why I didn't

229
00:11:44,960 --> 00:11:48,160
necessarily love it, you know?
It's the exact same dialogue

230
00:11:48,160 --> 00:11:50,720
deck, same cutscenes.
So according to a Eurogame or

231
00:11:50,720 --> 00:11:54,120
article by Ed Nightingale, the
one year deadline caused such

232
00:11:54,120 --> 00:11:56,880
stress for the developers that
in order to cope with the

233
00:11:56,880 --> 00:12:00,560
crunch, they vented their
frustrations using NPC dialogue,

234
00:12:00,800 --> 00:12:03,240
including the carpenters
worrying that they won't finish

235
00:12:03,240 --> 00:12:06,360
their project on time.
The mayor urging you to keep his

236
00:12:06,360 --> 00:12:09,320
trouble secret from his wife and
the mask salesman.

237
00:12:09,360 --> 00:12:11,720
Iconic lying.
You've met with a terrible fate,

238
00:12:11,720 --> 00:12:13,720
haven't you?
Did you guys hear the story

239
00:12:13,720 --> 00:12:16,200
about how that's the developer
is just crying directly to the

240
00:12:16,200 --> 00:12:17,480
player?
Yes.

241
00:12:17,880 --> 00:12:21,120
I've never heard that, but I
believe I had heard that it was

242
00:12:21,120 --> 00:12:24,840
done in a year, which is insane.
Yeah, they were like not going

243
00:12:24,840 --> 00:12:26,880
home or seeing their families
and stuff like that.

244
00:12:26,880 --> 00:12:28,520
And they would like, they were
often sleeping under their

245
00:12:28,520 --> 00:12:30,520
desks.
So yeah, that was kind of a way

246
00:12:30,520 --> 00:12:33,720
that like they put, when they
put in that dialogue, it was

247
00:12:33,720 --> 00:12:35,720
really what they were saying to
each other, the office and

248
00:12:35,720 --> 00:12:37,920
feeling and stuff.
And it's funny because both with

249
00:12:37,920 --> 00:12:42,080
that fact and the facts you gave
about Urri Zelda, I did a

250
00:12:42,080 --> 00:12:45,960
freelance piece for Watchmojo.
Of the 25 things you didn't Know

251
00:12:45,960 --> 00:12:48,440
about Majora's Mask, those are
both on the list.

252
00:12:48,680 --> 00:12:52,600
Nice, but also tied in what Ribi
said about the cover being sort

253
00:12:52,600 --> 00:12:55,880
of a flipped color scheme.
And so it is sort of this

254
00:12:56,360 --> 00:12:59,400
bizarro world kind of Zelda
tone, even down to like the

255
00:12:59,400 --> 00:13:01,520
cover art.
This thing with their

256
00:13:01,520 --> 00:13:05,880
frustration also kind of it
slightly reminds me of these

257
00:13:06,360 --> 00:13:11,480
like swords, sword forging guys.
If you try to get, if you go

258
00:13:11,480 --> 00:13:13,720
back after you get him the
sword, Yeah.

259
00:13:13,720 --> 00:13:16,120
And you're kind of like, I would
like if you go back and talk to

260
00:13:16,120 --> 00:13:18,160
him after you get him the sword.
And it's like, man, this is

261
00:13:18,160 --> 00:13:20,120
gonna take me time.
Like leave me alone.

262
00:13:21,840 --> 00:13:25,000
Good catch, that might be true.
I think that's a slam dunk.

263
00:13:25,000 --> 00:13:27,320
Yeah.
And also it just, I mean, I

264
00:13:27,360 --> 00:13:29,800
Derek, I know something you like
about this game is like, the

265
00:13:29,800 --> 00:13:32,840
eerie tone and like, knowing
that there was actual misery

266
00:13:32,840 --> 00:13:35,360
coming through the screen from
these poor people who worked so

267
00:13:35,360 --> 00:13:36,960
hard on this game.
I don't know.

268
00:13:36,960 --> 00:13:40,400
It just added a you know how
they say that like sad tears

269
00:13:40,400 --> 00:13:42,600
taste different than like angry
tears or something?

270
00:13:44,320 --> 00:13:44,880
What?
The.

271
00:13:45,040 --> 00:13:46,160
Hell, who are you talking to,
Damo?

272
00:13:47,640 --> 00:13:50,640
That's the thing that is a Mike
doctor.

273
00:13:50,640 --> 00:13:53,480
Doctor Lund, are you torturing
people and licking their faces?

274
00:13:53,480 --> 00:13:56,680
I read this and it sounds
accurate.

275
00:13:56,720 --> 00:14:00,760
According to Chris Hemsworth
Infuriosa, that's correct.

276
00:14:04,040 --> 00:14:05,560
Getting that underrated movie
reference.

277
00:14:05,560 --> 00:14:08,480
All right, so Derek, you already
knew about this fun fact.

278
00:14:08,720 --> 00:14:12,120
Did you know the movie
connections that led to a

279
00:14:12,120 --> 00:14:14,880
misunderstanding about where
this game's title came from?

280
00:14:15,160 --> 00:14:18,880
Yes, this movie.
It's the combination of the

281
00:14:18,920 --> 00:14:25,080
director's name and of Jurassic
Park, not Jumanji, which some

282
00:14:25,080 --> 00:14:28,760
people thought.
Director Our Numa said in an

283
00:14:28,760 --> 00:14:31,000
interview that it was a Jumanji
connection.

284
00:14:31,440 --> 00:14:34,880
And then years later the actual
art director said, well, no,

285
00:14:34,880 --> 00:14:40,080
it's my surname, which is Emma,
and then Jura from Jurassic

286
00:14:40,080 --> 00:14:43,400
Park.
So Emma Jura.

287
00:14:43,960 --> 00:14:45,840
Yeah.
Majura's Mask, basically.

288
00:14:46,680 --> 00:14:48,920
Yep, Yep.
And then the story, the time

289
00:14:48,920 --> 00:14:52,680
looping story was inspired by a
German sci-fi film called Run

290
00:14:52,680 --> 00:14:54,000
Lola Run.
Have you guys seen it?

291
00:14:54,200 --> 00:14:55,560
Yeah, it's a great movie.
Never seen it.

292
00:14:56,040 --> 00:14:57,560
Mike, you've seen this one
though, yeah.

293
00:14:58,680 --> 00:15:01,400
OK, it's funny cuz it's very
video gamey, that movie.

294
00:15:01,880 --> 00:15:04,360
Yeah, so I'm guessing there's a
time loop.

295
00:15:05,600 --> 00:15:08,840
Yeah, it's less of a time loop
like Groundhog Day and more of

296
00:15:08,840 --> 00:15:11,600
like she basically dies and then
resets and makes a different

297
00:15:11,600 --> 00:15:15,000
choice.
OK, I see it.

298
00:15:15,000 --> 00:15:16,520
That sounds good.
Mike, would you recommend it?

299
00:15:16,680 --> 00:15:18,560
Yeah, it's good.
It's it's good.

300
00:15:18,600 --> 00:15:20,000
I would recommend it.
What?

301
00:15:20,120 --> 00:15:21,640
What year was that movie, do you
know?

302
00:15:21,760 --> 00:15:26,120
96 it's.
Giving very 90s, so yeah.

303
00:15:26,440 --> 00:15:28,480
That's super 90s poster.
Yeah.

304
00:15:28,680 --> 00:15:33,080
Yeah, it's like late 90s or
midnight, I can't remember. 9698

305
00:15:33,080 --> 00:15:35,360
something like that.
So before we get into the joy

306
00:15:35,360 --> 00:15:38,760
pros and joy cons, what is our
history with the game and how

307
00:15:38,760 --> 00:15:40,600
far did we get Rhode Island?
Rhode Island, can we start with

308
00:15:40,600 --> 00:15:41,800
you?
Absolutely.

309
00:15:42,360 --> 00:15:45,080
I already gave away that I
played this as a kid.

310
00:15:46,240 --> 00:15:51,840
I was obsessed with my N64.
My whole family played it.

311
00:15:52,280 --> 00:15:54,920
I think me, my mom and my
brother all beat this game.

312
00:15:54,920 --> 00:15:58,360
So I nintended beat Majora's
Mask.

313
00:15:58,880 --> 00:16:03,960
You nintended I'm.
In computer.

314
00:16:04,040 --> 00:16:04,920
Very good.
Thank you.

315
00:16:05,680 --> 00:16:07,680
So yes, I intended beat this
game.

316
00:16:07,880 --> 00:16:13,000
I was trying so hard to beat it
again before hour recording

317
00:16:13,000 --> 00:16:16,800
tonight and I felt the pressure
of the day is counting down on

318
00:16:16,800 --> 00:16:19,640
the final day.
Three hours left, I didn't

319
00:16:19,640 --> 00:16:21,640
manage it.
I ended up in Stone Tower Temple

320
00:16:21,640 --> 00:16:25,840
and I said that's good enough.
Mike, I think you had a kind of

321
00:16:25,840 --> 00:16:28,360
a similar experience, right?
I saw you crunching on this game

322
00:16:28,360 --> 00:16:30,680
to to try and get through it.
How'd you do?

323
00:16:31,160 --> 00:16:37,000
Yeah, So obviously no past
history with it, since I have no

324
00:16:37,000 --> 00:16:38,520
past history with any Zelda
games.

325
00:16:39,040 --> 00:16:42,560
And certainly like Ocarina Time
was, I think about 20 hours to

326
00:16:42,560 --> 00:16:46,200
be.
And so I put almost 20 hours

327
00:16:46,200 --> 00:16:50,840
into this and I have barely
gotten through two dungeons.

328
00:16:52,280 --> 00:16:56,480
Possibly the curlest part of
this is notably with Ocarina of

329
00:16:56,480 --> 00:16:57,960
Time.
I reached the credits and saw

330
00:16:57,960 --> 00:17:00,400
the horse and went, I'm
surprised the horse didn't show

331
00:17:00,400 --> 00:17:05,440
up, and apparently I missed
that.

332
00:17:05,920 --> 00:17:08,760
And so when this game starts off
and you're on the horse, I'm

333
00:17:08,760 --> 00:17:11,440
like, sweet, I'll actually get
the horse.

334
00:17:15,079 --> 00:17:18,480
I'm so sorry.
And then it's taken away and I

335
00:17:18,480 --> 00:17:20,359
found the horse and can't get
the horse.

336
00:17:20,599 --> 00:17:24,920
So 20 hours in, still no horse.
Because you can't beat this one

337
00:17:24,920 --> 00:17:26,960
without the horse.
It's true, you don't need her.

338
00:17:26,960 --> 00:17:29,560
She's optional, just like in
Ocarina, as we learned.

339
00:17:29,600 --> 00:17:32,040
I thought you, I thought you had
to have her to, to jump over the

340
00:17:32,040 --> 00:17:36,640
thing to, to get to Great Bay.
Oh, you know what?

341
00:17:36,640 --> 00:17:38,360
I bet you have to have a bonus
song.

342
00:17:38,400 --> 00:17:39,280
If you're right, I.
Think you do?

343
00:17:39,400 --> 00:17:40,840
Yeah.
Oh, so you have to do that

344
00:17:40,840 --> 00:17:43,560
terrible alien sequence, don't
you?

345
00:17:43,800 --> 00:17:46,080
Yeah, I was going to say, that's
such a mic mission.

346
00:17:46,080 --> 00:17:48,480
You don't have to do the alien
quest, you just have to do the

347
00:17:48,480 --> 00:17:52,000
training for it.
Oh, OK, Well, yeah, still.

348
00:17:52,080 --> 00:17:54,720
Which I do love that alien side.
We'll get to it later.

349
00:17:54,720 --> 00:17:56,080
But I do love.
That alien.

350
00:17:56,120 --> 00:17:58,240
It's my second favorite quest in
the game.

351
00:17:58,920 --> 00:18:01,080
What's wrong with you?
It's so fun.

352
00:18:01,080 --> 00:18:03,520
You just play the.
You just play the inverted.

353
00:18:03,600 --> 00:18:05,560
Inverted.
I mean, yeah, you just play

354
00:18:05,600 --> 00:18:06,480
inverted.
That's yeah.

355
00:18:06,480 --> 00:18:07,800
That's why it's taking Mike so
long.

356
00:18:07,800 --> 00:18:09,880
He forgot to play inverted.
Yeah.

357
00:18:10,560 --> 00:18:13,040
When it was very clear I wasn't
getting there I went and checked

358
00:18:13,040 --> 00:18:16,600
out speed run so at least have a
gist of what I was missing out

359
00:18:16,600 --> 00:18:18,320
on.
So I can actually say you can

360
00:18:18,320 --> 00:18:22,440
totally beat this game without
the horse because this is nuts.

361
00:18:22,600 --> 00:18:27,560
There's a way that you can
glitch to a an owl that's not

362
00:18:27,760 --> 00:18:30,880
that's meant to be there for I
think for the mini map, but is

363
00:18:30,880 --> 00:18:34,840
not otherwise accessible.
And if that's the only owl

364
00:18:34,840 --> 00:18:37,680
you've marked as like a point
you've been to once you get the

365
00:18:37,680 --> 00:18:42,000
song of soaring, you kind of can
go any to any owl that you

366
00:18:42,000 --> 00:18:44,480
haven't visited in some insane
stuff.

367
00:18:44,480 --> 00:18:47,480
That, which is how they beat
this in, like with all masks,

368
00:18:47,480 --> 00:18:51,440
that they can beat this in like
a little under 2 1/2 hours.

369
00:18:53,120 --> 00:18:56,200
And then if you'd open the door
to all kinds of crazy glitches,

370
00:18:56,440 --> 00:18:58,720
it's like a 25 minute game.
Yeah.

371
00:18:58,720 --> 00:19:04,160
If you if you're doing like the
the like single frame, if you're

372
00:19:04,160 --> 00:19:06,320
good enough on your timing to do
those.

373
00:19:06,880 --> 00:19:09,200
This is like when you when you
start manipulating the memory of

374
00:19:09,200 --> 00:19:11,920
the game, you start getting into
25 minute things but.

375
00:19:11,920 --> 00:19:14,240
Called like ifg or something
like that.

376
00:19:14,760 --> 00:19:18,000
I consider that breaking the
game, not beating the game.

377
00:19:18,560 --> 00:19:20,760
Yeah.
Yes, I would agree with that.

378
00:19:21,480 --> 00:19:25,600
That that is why the the all
mask one that's like 2 1/2

379
00:19:25,600 --> 00:19:27,400
hours.
They're like, yeah, this is no

380
00:19:27,400 --> 00:19:29,400
major glitches and we're going
to do a bunch of stuff and

381
00:19:29,400 --> 00:19:31,760
you're going to wonder why that
counted as no major glitches.

382
00:19:31,760 --> 00:19:34,480
And that's because the major
glitches are insane.

383
00:19:35,080 --> 00:19:39,520
Right.
Well, so I had never played this

384
00:19:39,520 --> 00:19:42,840
game in any form before
preparing for this episode.

385
00:19:42,840 --> 00:19:45,240
And to me, I just knew it was
the spooky Zelda game.

386
00:19:45,560 --> 00:19:49,480
The image of the moon has been
living rent free in my head for

387
00:19:49,480 --> 00:19:54,360
like the last quarter century.
You get a such a striking image,

388
00:19:54,400 --> 00:19:56,040
you know, that I would just
think about it.

389
00:19:56,040 --> 00:19:58,400
Even though I'd never played the
game, every time I saw it, I

390
00:19:58,400 --> 00:20:01,680
just had to, you know, ponder it
and think about how scary that

391
00:20:01,680 --> 00:20:04,880
would be.
So I also was feeling the time

392
00:20:04,880 --> 00:20:07,440
crunch.
I've been busy lately and so,

393
00:20:07,640 --> 00:20:11,160
like with Mike and RiRi trying
to finish this, seeing those

394
00:20:11,160 --> 00:20:14,520
days counting down had a real
visceral impact on me.

395
00:20:15,440 --> 00:20:21,960
But thankfully this is my first
N64 game on the Switch 2 which

396
00:20:22,360 --> 00:20:25,800
you can rewind the N64 games on
the Switch 2.

397
00:20:26,200 --> 00:20:29,520
I didn't think about that.
Yeah, holding down the, holding

398
00:20:29,520 --> 00:20:33,200
down the minus button.
Using that bullshit again,

399
00:20:33,200 --> 00:20:34,960
Jamie.
Hey, hey.

400
00:20:34,960 --> 00:20:37,840
York would have gone so much
faster for me if I had

401
00:20:37,840 --> 00:20:43,080
remembered that, Dang.
So using the new N64 rewind

402
00:20:43,080 --> 00:20:45,200
feature exclusive to switch to
Mike?

403
00:20:45,200 --> 00:20:49,240
They should be sponsoring us and
abusingzeldadungeon.net.

404
00:20:49,240 --> 00:20:52,120
That site has been my social
media for the last couple days.

405
00:20:52,400 --> 00:20:55,480
I nintended beat this game just
in time.

406
00:20:55,480 --> 00:20:57,960
How many?
Computer.

407
00:20:59,080 --> 00:21:04,800
No, Derek, we've saved the most
distressed for last.

408
00:21:05,400 --> 00:21:09,200
Tell us about the 2011 short
film Man Versus Mask.

409
00:21:10,320 --> 00:21:14,200
Yeah.
So I mean, when I was, yeah, I

410
00:21:14,200 --> 00:21:16,560
guess it would have been 21.
I was.

411
00:21:16,800 --> 00:21:20,920
I'd already been a very big
Zelda fan for quite some time.

412
00:21:20,960 --> 00:21:24,480
And this was not my first time
playing Majora's Mask, but it

413
00:21:24,480 --> 00:21:28,400
was my first time in, you know,
many years playing Majora's

414
00:21:28,400 --> 00:21:32,280
Mask.
And I bet my brothers that I was

415
00:21:32,280 --> 00:21:34,680
like, you know what, I bet I
could just beat that game in a

416
00:21:34,680 --> 00:21:38,560
day, you know, and not use any
guides or anything like that.

417
00:21:38,560 --> 00:21:40,720
You know, I didn't remember it
super well, but I'm like, I'm

418
00:21:40,720 --> 00:21:43,240
good at Zelda.
And so my brother's like, all

419
00:21:43,240 --> 00:21:47,560
right, you're on.
And so I decided because it was

420
00:21:47,560 --> 00:21:50,760
just like this, you know,
budding, you know, movie

421
00:21:50,760 --> 00:21:54,640
obsessed guy, I was like, I
think I'm going to film the

422
00:21:54,640 --> 00:21:58,000
whole thing.
And, and I did.

423
00:21:58,040 --> 00:22:02,080
So I feel myself in trying to
beat Majora's Mask in one day

424
00:22:02,280 --> 00:22:05,040
without looking anything up or
anything, just all from just

425
00:22:05,040 --> 00:22:06,680
figuring it out off the top of
my head.

426
00:22:06,840 --> 00:22:09,960
So if I can do it from 24 hours
from I think I start around 1:00

427
00:22:09,960 --> 00:22:12,920
on one day, if I could beat it
by 1:00 the next day.

428
00:22:13,360 --> 00:22:18,400
And I will say the thing that
makes that really difficult is

429
00:22:18,800 --> 00:22:22,560
you don't get a lot of heart
pieces in this game or a lot of

430
00:22:22,560 --> 00:22:24,400
heart containers in this game.
You only get the four.

431
00:22:24,400 --> 00:22:26,080
So if you're not going out and
getting hard pieces doing all

432
00:22:26,080 --> 00:22:31,240
the side quests, it's tough.
So I in the end I played through

433
00:22:31,240 --> 00:22:32,520
it do.
You want to spoil it?

434
00:22:32,720 --> 00:22:34,160
Should I spoil it?
Should we let the?

435
00:22:34,160 --> 00:22:36,200
I won't spoil it, so I'll give
you my other history with it

436
00:22:36,200 --> 00:22:36,960
then.
Should I just?

437
00:22:38,200 --> 00:22:39,800
You gotta go watch it if you
want to know what happened.

438
00:22:39,800 --> 00:22:43,160
Yeah, well, so I can, you know,
I'm going to gush about Derek

439
00:22:43,160 --> 00:22:44,480
for a second.
He knows I'm a fan.

440
00:22:44,480 --> 00:22:47,200
But like, there's some real
filmmaking here because it keeps

441
00:22:47,200 --> 00:22:50,400
cutting away to him asking his
friends and family about, hey,

442
00:22:50,400 --> 00:22:52,320
dad, you think I can do it?
And dad doesn't want to be on

443
00:22:52,320 --> 00:22:53,400
the camera.
He's blocking it with this

444
00:22:53,440 --> 00:22:55,680
remote.
And but it's just this fun

445
00:22:55,680 --> 00:22:58,800
little slice of life that, you
know, was very much a moment.

446
00:22:58,800 --> 00:23:02,920
Like I felt very much back in
the the arts when watching that.

447
00:23:03,320 --> 00:23:06,480
And there's moments of genuine
thrills.

448
00:23:07,320 --> 00:23:10,640
You over, there came a lot of
challenges.

449
00:23:10,640 --> 00:23:13,440
Not saying whether or not you
accomplish it or not, but I was.

450
00:23:13,480 --> 00:23:15,000
I was on the edge of my seat,
dude.

451
00:23:15,480 --> 00:23:20,840
It it does come down to the
wire, I will say that I am

452
00:23:20,840 --> 00:23:25,040
fighting Majora with less than
an hour left and if I lose then

453
00:23:25,040 --> 00:23:27,600
I run out of time because that's
the last attempt I get.

454
00:23:27,600 --> 00:23:31,000
So I'll I'll just say that that
it really comes down to the

455
00:23:31,000 --> 00:23:32,800
wire.
And there's some raw emotion

456
00:23:32,800 --> 00:23:35,520
when things go wrong for you,
it's just like, oh.

457
00:23:37,240 --> 00:23:39,600
The game did crash a couple
times as I was playing it on my

458
00:23:39,600 --> 00:23:41,880
game Cube, and the Game Cube I
don't think is meant to be

459
00:23:41,880 --> 00:23:45,280
played for 24 hours straight
because I was playing it on that

460
00:23:45,280 --> 00:23:47,960
same disc that you had the
master quest and everything on.

461
00:23:48,280 --> 00:23:51,320
But yeah, aside from.
So that documentary is called

462
00:23:51,320 --> 00:23:53,720
Man Versus Mask.
It's still up on my YouTube

463
00:23:53,720 --> 00:23:55,440
channel.
You can go look it up.

464
00:23:55,760 --> 00:23:58,720
It'll be in the show notes.
See the we Baby Derek?

465
00:24:00,120 --> 00:24:03,360
But aside from that, as I
mentioned, I did play it about

466
00:24:03,360 --> 00:24:06,520
10 years before that.
When it came out in 2000, it was

467
00:24:06,520 --> 00:24:09,680
actually, I want to say because
I played Ocarina of Time before

468
00:24:09,680 --> 00:24:11,680
that and I was obsessed with
Ocarina of Time.

469
00:24:11,880 --> 00:24:14,160
So when they're like, there's a
new Zelda coming out, I was

470
00:24:14,160 --> 00:24:16,080
like, Oh my God, let's freaking
go.

471
00:24:16,560 --> 00:24:19,280
And I don't think I had even
beaten Ocarina of Time when I

472
00:24:19,280 --> 00:24:21,840
started playing Majora's Mask
because I was a kid and I was

473
00:24:21,960 --> 00:24:23,640
like having a tough time with
Ganondorf.

474
00:24:24,080 --> 00:24:27,080
So I very quickly became
obsessed with Majora's Mask.

475
00:24:27,080 --> 00:24:29,200
I got the guide so I could like
that time.

476
00:24:29,200 --> 00:24:32,160
I did use a guide when I was a
kid to get all the different

477
00:24:32,160 --> 00:24:36,840
masks and stuff and in the
original my kid days I did beat

478
00:24:36,880 --> 00:24:39,400
Majora's Mask because I got all
the masks and I beat Fierce IT

479
00:24:39,440 --> 00:24:42,560
link I'm.
In the computer.

480
00:24:43,560 --> 00:24:45,680
Like you.
You, you got you got fierce duty

481
00:24:45,680 --> 00:24:46,880
mask.
I did.

482
00:24:46,880 --> 00:24:49,120
I did.
Oh boy, I bet that Majora fight

483
00:24:49,120 --> 00:24:52,800
was way easier with that, huh?
It was significantly easier to

484
00:24:52,800 --> 00:24:55,000
the point where I had never
beaten him when I without the

485
00:24:55,000 --> 00:24:57,880
fierce idea I was playing man.
Man versus mask.

486
00:24:58,400 --> 00:25:01,160
Fierce duty.
No, what what they were what

487
00:25:01,160 --> 00:25:03,880
what they're referring to is
that if you get all the masks,

488
00:25:03,880 --> 00:25:09,000
there is the final 24th mask,
which I am told makes you

489
00:25:09,200 --> 00:25:13,360
absurdly strong in boss fights
to the point that people wish

490
00:25:13,360 --> 00:25:16,440
they didn't get the mask because
the boss isn't even bun, it's

491
00:25:16,440 --> 00:25:18,840
too fast.
Yes, it's it's it's not even a

492
00:25:18,840 --> 00:25:20,200
fight.
You just destroy him.

493
00:25:20,240 --> 00:25:22,680
And so that's why one of the
reasons why when I was trying to

494
00:25:22,680 --> 00:25:26,560
beat it in 2011 without having
done any of the side quests,

495
00:25:26,560 --> 00:25:28,880
getting all the masks, I was
like, this is really hard.

496
00:25:28,880 --> 00:25:30,560
I've never beaten him the real
way before.

497
00:25:30,560 --> 00:25:33,680
Also I don't have a lot of
health so and not very many

498
00:25:33,680 --> 00:25:36,160
balls fairies either.
So it was really tough.

499
00:25:36,440 --> 00:25:41,400
And then finally I did just a
few months ago, go back and play

500
00:25:41,480 --> 00:25:44,800
this on the N64.
And this time not only did I

501
00:25:44,800 --> 00:25:47,360
beat it and get all the masks,
including with your speeding

502
00:25:47,360 --> 00:25:50,000
mask, I 100% it.
I got everything.

503
00:25:50,160 --> 00:25:52,560
I got all the bottles, I beat
all the side guests.

504
00:25:52,560 --> 00:25:55,520
And I did a little bit of Jamo
bullshit in that because I would

505
00:25:55,840 --> 00:25:59,200
I if some of the some of the
quests before a mini game or

506
00:25:59,200 --> 00:26:02,240
something, I would create a save
point because I did not want to

507
00:26:02,240 --> 00:26:05,080
have to go through a whole 3 day
cycle again just to get to this

508
00:26:05,280 --> 00:26:07,840
game where I had to like jump on
different platforms.

509
00:26:08,080 --> 00:26:12,400
But I rarely 100% games and but
I did it for this one because

510
00:26:12,400 --> 00:26:16,280
this is my favorite game of all
time.

511
00:26:18,080 --> 00:26:22,120
Well, I think I think you got to
lead us on the discussion of the

512
00:26:22,120 --> 00:26:25,360
Joy Pros.
Like for me, if we can talk

513
00:26:25,360 --> 00:26:29,000
first about the visuals, I think
this game is freaking gorgeous,

514
00:26:29,200 --> 00:26:34,840
especially the color palettes,
the dark purples, the animations

515
00:26:34,840 --> 00:26:39,000
of all the people in the
villages all going about their

516
00:26:39,000 --> 00:26:42,400
daily routines and all having
his personality and way more

517
00:26:42,400 --> 00:26:44,680
characters on the screen at one
time.

518
00:26:44,680 --> 00:26:48,640
I think then Ocarina pulled off.
I usually would struggle to

519
00:26:48,640 --> 00:26:52,520
picture like what does that
expansion pack look like?

520
00:26:53,000 --> 00:26:57,040
I think this game looks leagues
better than Ocarina and Ocarina.

521
00:26:57,040 --> 00:26:59,640
A beautiful game, but I think
this one takes the edge.

522
00:27:00,360 --> 00:27:02,760
Ree Ree, are you?
Do you think this game's a

523
00:27:02,760 --> 00:27:05,920
looker like I do?
I was obsessed with this game as

524
00:27:05,920 --> 00:27:08,640
a kid.
If you had asked me which is

525
00:27:08,640 --> 00:27:11,160
better, Operator or Majora, I
said Majora in a heartbeat.

526
00:27:12,840 --> 00:27:17,600
I I think it's all the vibes
that they pack in truly.

527
00:27:17,600 --> 00:27:19,240
It's not that the gameplay is
that different.

528
00:27:19,240 --> 00:27:21,640
There are some changes.
There are some quality of life

529
00:27:21,640 --> 00:27:25,120
improvements in gameplay.
If you're talking just combat

530
00:27:25,120 --> 00:27:28,760
and movement, the timer does add
some urgency.

531
00:27:28,760 --> 00:27:32,080
It's almost a rogue light in
that way, in that you're doing

532
00:27:32,080 --> 00:27:35,280
the Groundhog's day of doing the
the same thing over and over

533
00:27:35,280 --> 00:27:36,360
again.
But this time I'm going to do it

534
00:27:36,360 --> 00:27:38,640
slightly better and improve my
score.

535
00:27:38,640 --> 00:27:42,720
But I think it's it's a there's
somewhere between and Alice in

536
00:27:42,720 --> 00:27:45,880
Wonderland and an invasion of
the body snatchers

537
00:27:46,240 --> 00:27:50,080
otherworldliness to the reusing
of the ocarina characters,

538
00:27:50,480 --> 00:27:53,200
right?
These are, I know this person I,

539
00:27:53,600 --> 00:27:58,280
I spent, you know, 40 hours of
my life last year talking to all

540
00:27:58,280 --> 00:28:00,120
of these people and now none of
them know me.

541
00:28:00,120 --> 00:28:02,720
Their names are different.
I don't know what's going on.

542
00:28:02,720 --> 00:28:05,400
Their personalities have
completely changed and, and that

543
00:28:05,400 --> 00:28:08,680
layered on top of what is
intentionally otherworldly art

544
00:28:08,680 --> 00:28:11,200
setting, right?
It made for the most incredible

545
00:28:11,200 --> 00:28:14,640
vibes in gaming.
I I don't know how to describe

546
00:28:14,640 --> 00:28:18,520
it, but it, it captured my
imagination in a way that kid

547
00:28:18,520 --> 00:28:23,040
RiRi wasn't ready for.
You know, I was obsessed and I

548
00:28:23,040 --> 00:28:27,080
wanted to just be in Termina and
learn and explore more.

549
00:28:27,080 --> 00:28:30,240
And you really don't get that.
There's a lot to the art of the

550
00:28:30,240 --> 00:28:34,640
unexplained here.
By not really explaining

551
00:28:34,640 --> 00:28:39,320
everything why it's quite so
weird, I think it makes it more

552
00:28:39,320 --> 00:28:40,920
mysterious, more fun, more
interesting.

553
00:28:40,920 --> 00:28:43,720
So I have to answer your
question.

554
00:28:43,800 --> 00:28:45,240
I could just talk about it all
day.

555
00:28:45,480 --> 00:28:46,760
I well, that's what we're here
to do.

556
00:28:46,760 --> 00:28:50,160
But like, I totally this feels
like the angsty teen of the

557
00:28:50,160 --> 00:28:53,680
Zelda series and.
And I was, I was the right age,

558
00:28:53,680 --> 00:28:55,880
right for that to like
absolutely grab me.

559
00:28:55,880 --> 00:28:59,960
And I was like, this is the one.
If it feels like any character

560
00:28:59,960 --> 00:29:03,480
in this game would make a badass
tattoo, like there's just

561
00:29:03,480 --> 00:29:06,760
something spiky and colorful
about so much of it.

562
00:29:07,240 --> 00:29:09,000
So.
But Derek, so you didn't take

563
00:29:09,000 --> 00:29:11,160
this on to the cable club league
though You brought Ocarina of

564
00:29:11,160 --> 00:29:12,960
Time, even though you think this
is a better game.

565
00:29:13,440 --> 00:29:15,760
Yeah, I do think this is a
better game.

566
00:29:15,840 --> 00:29:17,320
Ocarina of Time, don't get me
wrong.

567
00:29:17,360 --> 00:29:19,640
Also just a stone cold
masterpiece.

568
00:29:19,640 --> 00:29:23,320
You're comparing 210 out of 10s,
but that's one of the greatest

569
00:29:23,320 --> 00:29:25,080
games of all time, probably my
top ten.

570
00:29:25,120 --> 00:29:27,920
This is the greatest game and
part of the reason I took it on

571
00:29:27,920 --> 00:29:31,760
the cable club is Ocarina on the
cable club is because I wanted

572
00:29:31,760 --> 00:29:34,840
to talk about Ocarina and I kind
of knew we were talking about it

573
00:29:34,840 --> 00:29:36,160
here.
And I also had talked about

574
00:29:36,160 --> 00:29:38,160
Majora's Mask on, which is
podcast.

575
00:29:38,760 --> 00:29:41,320
So if you know, you can check
that me talking about that out.

576
00:29:41,320 --> 00:29:43,880
And I wanted to just talk about
Ocarina time a little bit.

577
00:29:43,880 --> 00:29:47,080
But just because that was just a
that's kind of what you think of

578
00:29:47,080 --> 00:29:49,240
when you think of the greatest
game of all time, where this is

579
00:29:49,560 --> 00:29:53,320
it's not a deep cut, but this is
like saying that it's like

580
00:29:53,360 --> 00:29:55,960
Empire Strikes Back.
It's like good godfather 2,

581
00:29:56,200 --> 00:29:58,160
right?
You have the setup of like

582
00:29:58,400 --> 00:30:00,600
here's this incredible.
And I know it's not the first

583
00:30:00,600 --> 00:30:03,160
Zelda, but it's the first 3D
Zelda where you have this

584
00:30:03,760 --> 00:30:06,960
beautiful, amazing world, this
new series that is just like

585
00:30:06,960 --> 00:30:10,240
wow.
And then you have the sequel,

586
00:30:10,240 --> 00:30:12,120
which is a little more
intricate, a little more

587
00:30:12,120 --> 00:30:14,280
interesting.
Little characters are more

588
00:30:14,280 --> 00:30:15,920
interesting.
It's a little darker.

589
00:30:16,280 --> 00:30:19,960
And so it takes all that good
stuff that had been established

590
00:30:19,960 --> 00:30:24,560
in the first one and builds on
it in a way that only a sequel

591
00:30:24,560 --> 00:30:27,880
can.
So I was, I really, really love

592
00:30:27,880 --> 00:30:29,880
that.
I mean, there's like RiRi said,

593
00:30:29,960 --> 00:30:32,840
I could talk all day.
I could do a 12 hour podcast at

594
00:30:32,840 --> 00:30:35,800
the Doris mask if you like.
And you know, you could just

595
00:30:35,800 --> 00:30:40,080
watch hours and hours and hours
of people theorizing what

596
00:30:40,120 --> 00:30:42,760
everything means or like, oh,
like all the stuff about the

597
00:30:42,760 --> 00:30:46,080
stages of grief or like what is
link going through?

598
00:30:46,080 --> 00:30:49,360
Like all, you know, all these
different things, the meanings

599
00:30:49,360 --> 00:30:52,280
of the game.
And, and like, it's a lot like,

600
00:30:52,280 --> 00:30:55,440
you know, RiRi talked about also
how kind of it's like weirder

601
00:30:55,440 --> 00:30:58,480
and darker, you know, it's a
little bit quirkier, just like

602
00:30:59,040 --> 00:31:01,760
Link's awakening was.
You know, I think that this

603
00:31:01,760 --> 00:31:05,440
shares a lot of DNA with that
where you have the kind of more

604
00:31:05,440 --> 00:31:08,760
traditional Zelda and then you
have the sequel or it goes off

605
00:31:08,760 --> 00:31:10,280
to another world.
There's no Zelda, there's no

606
00:31:10,280 --> 00:31:11,880
scanning.
And it gets a little bit weird.

607
00:31:12,120 --> 00:31:15,520
And I, I really want that.
I wish that, you know, Tears of

608
00:31:15,520 --> 00:31:16,520
the Kingdom would have been
that.

609
00:31:16,960 --> 00:31:19,800
I don't know what we're going.
To you, just you.

610
00:31:19,800 --> 00:31:24,160
Just like if that had been the
case, if they had gone more

611
00:31:24,160 --> 00:31:27,840
Eldon Ring vibes on tears.
Oh died, right.

612
00:31:27,960 --> 00:31:29,600
That's that's what I compare
this game to.

613
00:31:29,680 --> 00:31:34,440
Like whereas Ocarina is a fairy
tale, Majora is like a dark

614
00:31:34,560 --> 00:31:35,760
rims.
Yeah.

615
00:31:36,320 --> 00:31:38,360
Exactly, I was going to say that
I was going to say this.

616
00:31:38,360 --> 00:31:40,960
This is very grim.
You know, the grims, you know

617
00:31:40,960 --> 00:31:45,600
Brothers Grimm, you know, so I I
cannot get enough of this game.

618
00:31:45,600 --> 00:31:48,240
I will replay it all the time.
I was replaying a little bit

619
00:31:48,240 --> 00:31:52,880
right before we started.
It's just endlessly fascinating

620
00:31:52,880 --> 00:31:58,280
to me just, and I think it also
does, it is the ultimate example

621
00:31:58,280 --> 00:32:02,640
of why this medium works.
I think you could theoretically

622
00:32:02,640 --> 00:32:07,600
adapt Ocarina of Time into a
movie that it could translation

623
00:32:07,600 --> 00:32:09,760
into that story could work in
another medium.

624
00:32:09,800 --> 00:32:11,960
You would have to make some
changes.

625
00:32:12,320 --> 00:32:14,200
I don't think you could do that
with Majora's Mask.

626
00:32:14,200 --> 00:32:16,480
I think Majora's Mask is the
ultimate example of what a video

627
00:32:16,480 --> 00:32:19,640
game is because of that unique
time loop element, which

628
00:32:19,720 --> 00:32:22,880
obviously you see that in movies
with Groundhogs Day in Palm

629
00:32:22,880 --> 00:32:27,560
Springs and other things.
But the way it's here were OK,

630
00:32:27,560 --> 00:32:30,840
if I go and talk to this person,
then I'm going to set this whole

631
00:32:30,840 --> 00:32:32,920
chain of events off.
I'm going to start this whole

632
00:32:32,920 --> 00:32:34,480
side quest.
But if I do this side quest,

633
00:32:34,480 --> 00:32:36,240
it's going to impact this other
side quest.

634
00:32:36,400 --> 00:32:38,920
I can't go save that old lady
anymore.

635
00:32:39,080 --> 00:32:42,840
I need her to get robbed by
Sakon so that I can so I can get

636
00:32:42,840 --> 00:32:46,640
Cafe and Andrew back together.
It's stuff like that that it's

637
00:32:46,640 --> 00:32:48,720
the interaction that you do
here.

638
00:32:48,880 --> 00:32:52,240
It's seeing that, you know that
Anju, we'll go to the the pool

639
00:32:52,440 --> 00:32:55,160
at A and sit there with an
umbrella or parasol for a

640
00:32:55,160 --> 00:32:58,120
certain time at a certain day.
Not because that's what this

641
00:32:58,120 --> 00:33:01,720
character does in a video game,
but that's because you're seeing

642
00:33:01,720 --> 00:33:04,600
the same three day cycle.
You know what these people are.

643
00:33:04,600 --> 00:33:07,000
You even get like a little
journal to keep track of them.

644
00:33:07,360 --> 00:33:12,200
That is such a cool mechanic.
It really and feels like they

645
00:33:12,200 --> 00:33:17,320
pushed the boundaries of what
was possible on the N64 here and

646
00:33:17,400 --> 00:33:20,000
just in video game storytelling
in general.

647
00:33:20,560 --> 00:33:23,480
I'm so glad you mentioned that
because one of my joy cons was

648
00:33:23,480 --> 00:33:26,040
gonna be like, I feel like they
didn't really take advantage of

649
00:33:26,040 --> 00:33:29,000
the three day loop thing
storytelling wise, but I heard

650
00:33:29,000 --> 00:33:32,560
there was this big side quest
with would you say cafe and.

651
00:33:32,640 --> 00:33:35,520
The cafe and Andrew.
Yeah, and apparently it's the

652
00:33:35,520 --> 00:33:38,440
best chain of side quests in the
game and it's a great

653
00:33:38,480 --> 00:33:40,920
storytelling.
It'll tug your heartstrings.

654
00:33:41,000 --> 00:33:43,320
I skip the whole good.
Skip the whole thing to finish

655
00:33:43,320 --> 00:33:44,520
on time.
Yeah.

656
00:33:44,760 --> 00:33:45,680
Go back.
Go back.

657
00:33:45,720 --> 00:33:48,520
Yeah.
But Mike, I know that sometimes,

658
00:33:48,880 --> 00:33:50,960
even if you don't have the best
time with a game like Ghosts and

659
00:33:50,960 --> 00:33:53,280
Gobs, I'm thinking of, an
aesthetic can go a long way

660
00:33:53,280 --> 00:33:56,040
towards your enjoyment of it.
Did you vibe with how this game

661
00:33:56,040 --> 00:33:57,800
looked and felt?
I don't.

662
00:33:58,440 --> 00:34:00,600
Think so.
I didn't notice much difference

663
00:34:00,600 --> 00:34:03,600
in how it looked from between
this and Ocarina at a time like

664
00:34:03,600 --> 00:34:04,920
there wasn't.
Yeah.

665
00:34:05,400 --> 00:34:11,040
And then I think I noticed stuff
in terms of the music, but it

666
00:34:11,040 --> 00:34:14,280
felt more of a combination of
either just going, Hey, wait a

667
00:34:14,280 --> 00:34:16,040
minute.
I recognize that music.

668
00:34:16,639 --> 00:34:20,040
Or at least for the stuff that I
spent a lot of time in, I'm just

669
00:34:20,040 --> 00:34:22,719
going to say acoustic choices
that I was not a fan of.

670
00:34:24,120 --> 00:34:28,360
Like the amount of time that I
spent trying to figure out with

671
00:34:28,360 --> 00:34:31,800
the crying kid.
And I'm like, I have to just

672
00:34:31,800 --> 00:34:34,920
keep listening to this while I'm
trying to figure out what to do.

673
00:34:34,920 --> 00:34:38,800
It's like this just keeps going.
Like if that had been quieter

674
00:34:38,800 --> 00:34:41,920
out of the room, it would be one
thing, but it just like I was

675
00:34:41,920 --> 00:34:43,679
there a long time listening to
that.

676
00:34:43,679 --> 00:34:48,400
So like the the audio parts that
stuck with me I was not a fan

677
00:34:48,400 --> 00:34:51,120
of.
I'm guessing you weren't happy

678
00:34:51,120 --> 00:34:55,120
with the noises Odola makes.
Which one does that one read?

679
00:34:55,159 --> 00:34:56,840
Me.
That's the very first boss in

680
00:34:56,840 --> 00:34:59,800
Woodfall.
He got some noises, man.

681
00:35:00,480 --> 00:35:02,480
Yeah.
Is that the one?

682
00:35:03,640 --> 00:35:04,480
And.
He's like, oh.

683
00:35:05,040 --> 00:35:07,400
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Derek's got
it.

684
00:35:07,400 --> 00:35:10,560
I was like, I'm not doing it.
I might have just gotten

685
00:35:10,560 --> 00:35:14,400
cancelled.
Hey, it's nondescript.

686
00:35:14,400 --> 00:35:16,160
Look, I'm gonna don't you worry
about that.

687
00:35:16,160 --> 00:35:18,320
I'll take all the I'll jump on
that grenade later in the

688
00:35:18,320 --> 00:35:22,200
podcast.
But you know what?

689
00:35:22,240 --> 00:35:27,400
I think I really noticed playing
Majora is that in my mind it was

690
00:35:27,400 --> 00:35:30,760
all the stuff I liked about
Ocarina, but better.

691
00:35:31,280 --> 00:35:35,760
Like the Ocarina system I
thought was so interesting in

692
00:35:35,760 --> 00:35:39,000
this game in the way that you
could modify certain songs to

693
00:35:39,000 --> 00:35:41,000
get a different spell, quote UN
quote.

694
00:35:41,320 --> 00:35:43,160
You know, Song of Time most
obviously.

695
00:35:43,520 --> 00:35:46,600
And then I loved the part when
you are in the Zora Kingdom.

696
00:35:46,920 --> 00:35:49,680
Or is it the Goran?
No, the Goran king who's too old

697
00:35:49,680 --> 00:35:52,040
and can't can only remember the
first part of a song.

698
00:35:53,160 --> 00:35:57,640
Yeah, yeah, the elder.
You you learn the Goran Lullaby

699
00:35:57,640 --> 00:36:01,240
in two parts, yeah.
And then later on in the Zora 1,

700
00:36:01,240 --> 00:36:03,280
you have the feuding band
members, and so they don't want

701
00:36:03,280 --> 00:36:04,920
to work together.
So you got to get half the song

702
00:36:04,920 --> 00:36:07,600
from this fish and half the song
from that fish, and then you

703
00:36:07,600 --> 00:36:11,400
combine it and bring the band
back together and they play the

704
00:36:11,400 --> 00:36:12,840
credits.
I was just like, hell yeah, we

705
00:36:12,840 --> 00:36:16,520
got the band back together.
Like there were so many.

706
00:36:18,000 --> 00:36:19,400
Can I ask a question about the
band you bring up?

707
00:36:20,120 --> 00:36:23,640
There.
So is that the same band that

708
00:36:23,640 --> 00:36:25,640
like the manager is in the town
for us is?

709
00:36:25,640 --> 00:36:27,680
Different.
Yes, yes, they think the indie

710
00:36:27,720 --> 00:36:31,800
go go's.
Are and so are they because that

711
00:36:31,800 --> 00:36:34,240
that's the bit where there's a
bit in the dialogue with the

712
00:36:34,240 --> 00:36:36,840
manager about their song.
I think it, I think that's who

713
00:36:36,840 --> 00:36:39,400
has the bit of dialogue about
this, their them having a song

714
00:36:40,160 --> 00:36:42,040
Ballad of the Wind fish.
Yes.

715
00:36:42,960 --> 00:36:46,520
You know, you know where that's.
From and the fun part is because

716
00:36:46,520 --> 00:36:47,920
it's like, Oh, have you heard
the song?

717
00:36:47,920 --> 00:36:49,960
It's like really?
And it's like, wait, no, wait,

718
00:36:49,960 --> 00:36:54,080
no, I have which which now makes
a lot more sense when you bring

719
00:36:54,080 --> 00:36:56,560
up the OR.
I think you mentioned that part

720
00:36:56,560 --> 00:36:58,680
of the creative force behind
this were also links Awakening.

721
00:36:59,000 --> 00:37:01,640
Yeah.
Yeah, and and I will say 1 cool

722
00:37:01,640 --> 00:37:04,480
thing about that song and you
guys, I don't know, the side

723
00:37:04,480 --> 00:37:07,440
quests are really what make this
game like it's in great as the

724
00:37:07,600 --> 00:37:10,280
main stuff is the side quests
are really the juice.

725
00:37:10,280 --> 00:37:12,440
And that was something I missed
when I did that man versus mask

726
00:37:12,440 --> 00:37:15,440
is I was like, man, I wish I
could go see that hand in the

727
00:37:15,440 --> 00:37:19,320
toilet and all this other stuff.
And one of the great quests is

728
00:37:19,320 --> 00:37:23,520
after you do the aliens of the
Romani thing, you can go to this

729
00:37:23,520 --> 00:37:28,400
bar and you can meet them.
And in the bar is the manager of

730
00:37:28,400 --> 00:37:32,280
that band and also the manager
of the like, traveling troop

731
00:37:32,280 --> 00:37:34,880
that is in town.
And he's just kind of drunk and

732
00:37:34,880 --> 00:37:37,640
angry.
And if you piece by piece play

733
00:37:37,640 --> 00:37:40,240
all the different songs while
they're doing like a sound check

734
00:37:40,240 --> 00:37:42,640
of the Ballad of the Wind fish,
you stand here, you play the

735
00:37:42,640 --> 00:37:44,560
ocarina, you stand here, you
play the drums, you stand here,

736
00:37:44,760 --> 00:37:46,920
play the guitar and, and the
pipes.

737
00:37:46,920 --> 00:37:49,200
And it all comes together and
makes this incredible song.

738
00:37:49,400 --> 00:37:52,240
And he starts, he's like moved
to tears and he remembers like,

739
00:37:52,240 --> 00:37:53,880
This is why I got into this show
business.

740
00:37:54,160 --> 00:37:57,720
It's moments like that.
It's the characters that you're

741
00:37:57,800 --> 00:38:01,160
connecting with so deeply by
making the impact in their

742
00:38:01,160 --> 00:38:03,160
lives.
And that's why I love that thing

743
00:38:03,160 --> 00:38:05,720
about the Notebook book and like
doing all these side quests and,

744
00:38:05,800 --> 00:38:08,480
you know, even after you beat
the game, the happy mask

745
00:38:08,480 --> 00:38:12,040
salesman says something came to
look at all these people you've

746
00:38:12,040 --> 00:38:16,120
made happy, and you only get to
see them in the credits when

747
00:38:16,120 --> 00:38:18,840
you've done it.
Yeah, Jamo, your credits weren't

748
00:38:18,840 --> 00:38:20,600
complete, by the way.
Not at all.

749
00:38:20,960 --> 00:38:24,120
You get more credits if you
complete more personal side

750
00:38:24,120 --> 00:38:25,280
quests.
Yeah, it's just a.

751
00:38:25,280 --> 00:38:27,840
It's just like the empty mask
when you haven't completed that

752
00:38:27,840 --> 00:38:30,000
quest.
Right, which is kind of dark.

753
00:38:30,000 --> 00:38:33,680
Gives you a hint right to go go
fix that if you want.

754
00:38:33,960 --> 00:38:37,160
If you choose to, which like
there is the option to, you can

755
00:38:37,160 --> 00:38:40,440
start your save file and it's
the start of the three days

756
00:38:40,440 --> 00:38:44,680
again before you go to the moon.
You can you can try it makes it

757
00:38:44,680 --> 00:38:48,600
very friendly to go back in my
opinion.

758
00:38:48,960 --> 00:38:54,320
But, and I love that mechanic of
the number of masks you collect

759
00:38:54,320 --> 00:38:58,520
determining how good your ending
is, because it's not like you

760
00:38:58,520 --> 00:39:01,400
get a bad ending if you don't
get enough of them.

761
00:39:01,400 --> 00:39:04,960
That would have been irritating.
But you don't get to impact as

762
00:39:04,960 --> 00:39:08,800
many lives if you haven't
touched all of their lives.

763
00:39:08,840 --> 00:39:11,920
And so I can see, Derek, what
you're saying, like it really

764
00:39:11,920 --> 00:39:16,800
has this feeling of like a town
that's really alive and that you

765
00:39:16,800 --> 00:39:19,720
could drop in on any one of
these NPCS and they'll have an

766
00:39:19,720 --> 00:39:23,320
elaborate back story that's
happening in the background the

767
00:39:23,320 --> 00:39:26,240
whole time.
Meanwhile, the moon is always

768
00:39:26,480 --> 00:39:29,640
just out of frame.
And if you ever look up, it'll

769
00:39:29,640 --> 00:39:32,200
always be staring at you,
reminding you of the doom that's

770
00:39:32,200 --> 00:39:34,560
coming.
It's like, this is such good

771
00:39:34,560 --> 00:39:36,680
storytelling.
I would say like we're Ocarina

772
00:39:36,680 --> 00:39:39,280
is like Disney.
This is like Tim Burton to me.

773
00:39:40,360 --> 00:39:42,040
Or like, hey.
Or like.

774
00:39:43,400 --> 00:39:47,320
On the Rated podcast.
That's right, I've totally seen

775
00:39:47,320 --> 00:39:50,920
all of those movies.
Mr. Link, eh?

776
00:39:53,080 --> 00:39:58,160
Let's talk about the masks.
I think they're run the gamut

777
00:39:58,160 --> 00:40:02,160
from really cool to just really
quirky to like what the hell,

778
00:40:02,160 --> 00:40:04,920
Why is this in the cage?
Can we do a mini game minute?

779
00:40:05,360 --> 00:40:07,360
Yeah.
OK you guys, tell me your

780
00:40:07,360 --> 00:40:10,120
favorite mask and I'll give you
your tarot reading.

781
00:40:11,120 --> 00:40:13,160
I love that.
What that means about you?

782
00:40:13,840 --> 00:40:15,880
Can I?
We're gonna call this Terry

783
00:40:15,880 --> 00:40:20,840
Rereading.
Well, RiRi, can I ask favorite

784
00:40:20,840 --> 00:40:24,520
mask in terms of you like the
vibe of the mask or you like the

785
00:40:24,520 --> 00:40:26,000
effect of it?
What do you mean?

786
00:40:26,560 --> 00:40:29,360
I'm gonna leave that to your
interpretation.

787
00:40:29,360 --> 00:40:31,240
She's right.
You trust the cards, your heart

788
00:40:31,240 --> 00:40:34,520
just goes to one of them.
I got my answer.

789
00:40:34,520 --> 00:40:37,600
Might be a little on the nose
but I like the weird kinky all

790
00:40:37,600 --> 00:40:42,280
night mask that's like.
Oh gemo, that means you're

791
00:40:42,280 --> 00:40:45,840
lonely.
You just want to talk to all

792
00:40:45,840 --> 00:40:49,480
night long and listen to you and
really, really hear what you're

793
00:40:49,480 --> 00:40:53,200
saying and not fall asleep.
I mean, I started a podcast for

794
00:40:53,200 --> 00:40:56,360
a reason, so you guys are.
Yeah.

795
00:40:57,280 --> 00:41:00,680
But it's also, it's just like
you look at it to me, it's

796
00:41:00,680 --> 00:41:03,600
clearly like leather and your
eyes are bulging out and you

797
00:41:03,600 --> 00:41:06,080
kind of, you kind of have like a
gag on.

798
00:41:07,280 --> 00:41:10,280
And the implication is that it's
forcing your eyelids open so

799
00:41:10,280 --> 00:41:12,600
that you don't fall asleep
during the old lady's story.

800
00:41:15,160 --> 00:41:18,680
I isn't it something like if you
think it's, it's implied

801
00:41:18,680 --> 00:41:21,120
somewhere that it was like used
by the Garrow or something for

802
00:41:21,120 --> 00:41:23,760
torture purposes to keep their
enemies up at night or something

803
00:41:23,760 --> 00:41:24,960
like that?
Oh God.

804
00:41:25,280 --> 00:41:28,440
There's some there's I think if
you click on the mask in the

805
00:41:28,680 --> 00:41:31,720
start menu there's some texts.
I could be wrong.

806
00:41:33,160 --> 00:41:36,600
I think it kind of looks like a
Gray, very surprised pincer.

807
00:41:37,360 --> 00:41:39,160
Pincer.
Is that your choice, Mike?

808
00:41:39,680 --> 00:41:42,200
Oh yeah, Mike, I think you
should go next cuz you didn't

809
00:41:42,200 --> 00:41:45,160
see all of these.
So of the ones you managed, did

810
00:41:45,160 --> 00:41:47,640
you have one that that that
stuck out to you?

811
00:41:48,200 --> 00:41:51,280
Yeah, I put a description of all
the powers for you to reference,

812
00:41:51,280 --> 00:41:55,040
Mike.
I mean, all six masks that I

813
00:41:55,040 --> 00:41:59,840
saw.
I mean, of those six, I guess

814
00:41:59,880 --> 00:42:04,160
I'll, I'll go with the frog.
All the frog.

815
00:42:04,160 --> 00:42:06,880
I do like that one very
similarly.

816
00:42:06,880 --> 00:42:09,480
You just want to be understood,
right?

817
00:42:10,080 --> 00:42:14,400
You just want to be friends.
I like that you just you know,

818
00:42:14,400 --> 00:42:17,080
and you want to see people and
understand people and you want

819
00:42:17,080 --> 00:42:20,040
them to see and understand you
connections, right?

820
00:42:20,040 --> 00:42:21,880
It's like you started a podcast
or something.

821
00:42:23,320 --> 00:42:25,920
Spoiler alert, these are all
about starting a podcast cuz all

822
00:42:25,920 --> 00:42:29,960
you gross started a podcast.
Well, let's ask the last

823
00:42:29,960 --> 00:42:32,400
podcaster.
And can you read your own reread

824
00:42:32,400 --> 00:42:32,960
and?
I'll do.

825
00:42:33,120 --> 00:42:34,760
I will do mine after.
It's fine.

826
00:42:36,200 --> 00:42:39,480
I think mine is an interesting.
I don't really like the look of

827
00:42:39,480 --> 00:42:45,840
this mask, more that I like what
you have to do to earn it and

828
00:42:45,840 --> 00:42:48,040
what it does for you once you
have it.

829
00:42:48,400 --> 00:42:52,200
And that is the couple's mask.
Oh, it's so slick.

830
00:42:52,400 --> 00:42:56,240
We were just talking about so I
always call it like the romance

831
00:42:56,240 --> 00:42:58,760
mask.
I you know, I'm sure it's called

832
00:42:58,760 --> 00:43:02,760
couples mask somewhere in there.
I agree the look is lackluster

833
00:43:04,040 --> 00:43:07,240
but yeah, couples mask you're
just you're a romantic at heart.

834
00:43:07,400 --> 00:43:09,880
I would say the same thing for
cafe too.

835
00:43:10,120 --> 00:43:12,160
That was that.
Honestly, that was almost I

836
00:43:12,160 --> 00:43:13,720
almost go with because that's
the beginning.

837
00:43:14,080 --> 00:43:15,800
That's the end we talked about.
Right.

838
00:43:15,800 --> 00:43:18,360
Could the couples mask be
described?

839
00:43:18,840 --> 00:43:22,800
It's it's like basically like an
Oval with a weird kind of just

840
00:43:22,840 --> 00:43:24,960
like Criss crossing design on
it.

841
00:43:25,280 --> 00:43:28,240
Looks like a mummy mask to me,
like when I look at but there is

842
00:43:28,400 --> 00:43:32,360
there is more mummy like.
Yeah, it's not the Gibdo mask, I

843
00:43:32,360 --> 00:43:35,320
guess it's a little whiter.
There's no eyes, there's no

844
00:43:35,320 --> 00:43:37,560
mouth, there's no nose, there's
no indication it's a face at

845
00:43:37,560 --> 00:43:39,200
all.
I think it's just a design.

846
00:43:39,680 --> 00:43:42,560
I thought it was some kind of
like shapes balancing, some kind

847
00:43:42,560 --> 00:43:45,160
of the fact there's some
symbolism I wasn't detecting,

848
00:43:45,160 --> 00:43:46,880
but you know it.
Looks like abstract to me.

849
00:43:46,920 --> 00:43:50,520
It's it's basically an
engagement ring, but a mask.

850
00:43:50,960 --> 00:43:55,560
It's dignity.
It's dignity, Mike, we mentioned

851
00:43:55,560 --> 00:43:57,120
the Gibbdo mask.
If I can just jump on on that

852
00:43:57,120 --> 00:44:00,480
real quick, that had one of my
favorite mask moments where the

853
00:44:00,480 --> 00:44:05,960
poor little girl in the the
dusty Canyon has her father

854
00:44:05,960 --> 00:44:08,280
who's become like the undead
essentially.

855
00:44:08,720 --> 00:44:11,160
And you know, my first instinct,
OK, slash it.

856
00:44:11,160 --> 00:44:13,240
And she runs in and goes, stop.
That's my dad.

857
00:44:13,240 --> 00:44:15,280
Like leave here, please don't
kill my dad.

858
00:44:15,280 --> 00:44:18,720
And you get the Gibbdo mask.
And then you can write, you can

859
00:44:18,720 --> 00:44:21,480
talk to her, or you can talk to
the zombies and you can cure

860
00:44:21,480 --> 00:44:23,600
him.
Truly, truly beautiful,

861
00:44:23,600 --> 00:44:26,280
heartbreaking moment where you,
you know, you play the song of

862
00:44:26,280 --> 00:44:29,640
healing the masks comes off him.
And then there's that reunion

863
00:44:29,880 --> 00:44:31,560
and your fairy Tattle.
By the way, we haven't even

864
00:44:31,560 --> 00:44:33,160
talked about it all.
Tattle is so great.

865
00:44:33,600 --> 00:44:36,480
Big improvement over Navi.
Sorry to the three people who

866
00:44:36,480 --> 00:44:40,240
like Navi out there, but like,
Tattle is just so, so much

867
00:44:40,240 --> 00:44:44,120
better. 100%.
And she's just, yeah.

868
00:44:44,120 --> 00:44:47,080
And she's just kind of like,
hey, dude, give this father and

869
00:44:47,080 --> 00:44:49,160
daughter a moment.
Like, they, like, she's been

870
00:44:49,160 --> 00:44:51,520
afraid of her own dad for, like,
months now.

871
00:44:51,760 --> 00:44:54,880
And also, I'll say something
about that mask and the other

872
00:44:54,880 --> 00:44:58,000
two spooky masks.
If you wear any of them while

873
00:44:58,000 --> 00:45:01,600
you're in iconic castle, the
Redead will not attack you.

874
00:45:01,800 --> 00:45:03,520
They will do different weird
dances.

875
00:45:03,880 --> 00:45:06,440
And if you wear the captain's
hat when you're in the final

876
00:45:06,440 --> 00:45:12,400
battle, I forget his name,
Igaladu, the the main bat, the

877
00:45:12,400 --> 00:45:15,440
king of Econic Castle, will for
a second, like, think you're the

878
00:45:15,440 --> 00:45:17,120
captain and be like, how'd you
get so small?

879
00:45:17,240 --> 00:45:20,520
Wait, you're trying to trick me?
They talk to you like everybody

880
00:45:20,520 --> 00:45:22,320
thinks you're the captain.
If you wear the captain's hat,

881
00:45:22,320 --> 00:45:24,040
it's pretty good.
Yeah, it's awesome.

882
00:45:24,560 --> 00:45:26,440
I mean, that's just kind of
conceit for storytelling through

883
00:45:26,440 --> 00:45:27,760
the whole game, though.
That was one of the things I

884
00:45:27,760 --> 00:45:31,240
thought was so cool about it, is
that you wear the Goron mask,

885
00:45:31,600 --> 00:45:33,880
you walk up to any NPC, they
talk to you as if you're a

886
00:45:33,880 --> 00:45:38,280
Goron.
And so that alone required so

887
00:45:38,280 --> 00:45:42,280
much more dialogue.
Every NPC had to have a reaction

888
00:45:42,280 --> 00:45:44,640
to Link and a reaction to if
he's dressed as a Zora and a

889
00:45:44,640 --> 00:45:47,480
reaction as a Deku.
And it's just like that must

890
00:45:47,480 --> 00:45:51,200
have been exhausting.
Reaching conversation paths,

891
00:45:51,440 --> 00:45:53,480
right?
Or like if you wear the Cafe

892
00:45:53,760 --> 00:45:55,840
Faye mask, like some people,
like I haven't seen him, I don't

893
00:45:55,840 --> 00:45:57,320
know where he's at.
You wear it to like certain

894
00:45:57,320 --> 00:45:58,760
people.
They're like, he's not like you

895
00:45:58,760 --> 00:46:02,600
go to Romani's ranch because
there's a whole rumor that like

896
00:46:02,600 --> 00:46:05,320
he ran off with Romani because
there's a love triangle there

897
00:46:05,320 --> 00:46:07,240
happening there where Romani
definitely has feelings for a

898
00:46:07,240 --> 00:46:09,440
cafe.
And like she's like, he's not

899
00:46:09,440 --> 00:46:11,120
here.
Or if you do it to like, you

900
00:46:11,120 --> 00:46:13,720
know, Andrew's mom, she's like,
get that shit off your face.

901
00:46:13,720 --> 00:46:15,440
Get out of here.
You know, it's, it's like, and

902
00:46:15,600 --> 00:46:18,400
so many of the masks do that
with so many characters.

903
00:46:18,760 --> 00:46:20,200
Yeah.
Very cool.

904
00:46:20,360 --> 00:46:24,720
So with the one that's more
distinctly bandaged and that in,

905
00:46:25,040 --> 00:46:28,080
if that's a, you play the song
healing and then like just the

906
00:46:28,080 --> 00:46:30,600
bandages come off.
Did Jeremy just try to kill a

907
00:46:30,600 --> 00:46:32,960
leper?
Is that or is there more to

908
00:46:32,960 --> 00:46:34,840
that?
Because that's all I'm taking

909
00:46:34,840 --> 00:46:37,320
away.
Leprosy is not spreading on my

910
00:46:37,320 --> 00:46:38,720
watch, Mike.
Wow.

911
00:46:39,920 --> 00:46:44,520
OK, so my favorite mask, yes, is
the Bremen mask, which is the

912
00:46:44,560 --> 00:46:48,960
angry cuckoo mask.
Because when you when you have

913
00:46:48,960 --> 00:46:51,480
it on, you have the option to
play a March and you play a

914
00:46:51,480 --> 00:46:54,200
jaunty little tune and you high
step around and it's really

915
00:46:54,200 --> 00:46:57,480
cute.
And if you do it in one of the

916
00:46:57,480 --> 00:47:00,200
ranch areas, you can get all the
little baby tiny chicks to

917
00:47:00,200 --> 00:47:02,320
follow you.
And if you line them all up,

918
00:47:02,520 --> 00:47:04,320
they'll turn into full grown
cuckoos.

919
00:47:04,320 --> 00:47:07,480
And that that particular
dialogue is so sad because the

920
00:47:07,480 --> 00:47:10,800
reason you do that quest is
there's a a cuckoo keeper who is

921
00:47:10,800 --> 00:47:13,280
sad that his poor chickens are
never going to make it to

922
00:47:13,280 --> 00:47:15,880
maturity as the moon's gonna
crash, the world's gonna end,

923
00:47:15,880 --> 00:47:18,320
and they'll never live to see
adulthood, right.

924
00:47:18,640 --> 00:47:20,800
So you can use the Bremen mask
to March them around.

925
00:47:20,800 --> 00:47:24,520
It's it's precious.
And they can all hatch and

926
00:47:24,520 --> 00:47:27,360
become, you know, adult cuckoos.
And he'll give you the Bunny

927
00:47:27,360 --> 00:47:29,920
Hood as a reward.
So it's incredibly easy to get.

928
00:47:30,320 --> 00:47:33,360
And the Bunny Hood is absolutely
Opie in this game.

929
00:47:33,360 --> 00:47:34,200
It's.
So good.

930
00:47:34,200 --> 00:47:37,760
It's so, it's so Opie, it's so
necessary.

931
00:47:37,760 --> 00:47:40,240
It kind of makes opponent, like
redundant that yeah.

932
00:47:40,800 --> 00:47:44,360
Yeah, so the Bremen mask is I
want to have all my little

933
00:47:44,360 --> 00:47:47,240
minions and all my little
followers following me around,

934
00:47:48,400 --> 00:47:51,040
but growing because of.
Me, is that your chat?

935
00:47:51,360 --> 00:47:52,720
This is why, yeah.
That's my chat.

936
00:47:53,040 --> 00:47:56,080
Yeah, absolutely.
Really real fact trivia here.

937
00:47:56,080 --> 00:47:58,320
Do you know why it why it's
called the Bremen mask?

938
00:47:58,600 --> 00:48:00,880
No, I have no idea.
So I found this out when I was

939
00:48:00,880 --> 00:48:02,680
doing research for that article
cuz I never knew I was.

940
00:48:03,120 --> 00:48:05,200
What is brim?
The It's a reference to a

941
00:48:05,200 --> 00:48:10,000
Grimm's fairy tale about a troop
of animal performers.

942
00:48:10,280 --> 00:48:12,360
Just like that's how you get the
the brim mask.

943
00:48:12,360 --> 00:48:14,880
His dialogue is about exactly
like a circus troop, basically.

944
00:48:15,120 --> 00:48:16,400
And so that's what it's
referencing.

945
00:48:16,400 --> 00:48:19,760
It's referencing A Grimm's fairy
tale about a troop of animals

946
00:48:19,760 --> 00:48:21,800
that went and performed in the
German city of Bremen.

947
00:48:22,280 --> 00:48:25,440
That's so cool, I love that.
I'm glad that you have all the

948
00:48:25,440 --> 00:48:27,840
trivia.
I have so much useless knowledge

949
00:48:27,840 --> 00:48:31,240
about this game.
And the question on everyone's

950
00:48:31,240 --> 00:48:34,120
mind is what does it mean if you
pick the Zora mask and it means

951
00:48:34,120 --> 00:48:40,240
you're horny?
Hello sexy fish people, one of

952
00:48:40,240 --> 00:48:45,760
our very first popular Tik Toks.
Jamos, I see he's leaned into it

953
00:48:45,760 --> 00:48:49,320
because he's put the description
of Zora become sexy.

954
00:48:50,400 --> 00:48:53,720
That's the effect.
I had a limited number of

955
00:48:53,760 --> 00:48:55,160
letters there.
Really.

956
00:48:56,400 --> 00:48:58,840
Although that was fun, when a
student last year came up to me

957
00:48:58,840 --> 00:49:01,120
towards the end of the year and
was like sexy fish people.

958
00:49:01,120 --> 00:49:05,840
I was like, hey, I was like,
listen, you found the podcast on

959
00:49:05,840 --> 00:49:06,720
your own.
All right.

960
00:49:09,120 --> 00:49:12,040
One last thing.
I wanted to just sing about this

961
00:49:12,040 --> 00:49:15,440
game.
The praises of I guess is how it

962
00:49:15,440 --> 00:49:19,560
varies the gameplay.
I felt like once an hour the

963
00:49:19,560 --> 00:49:23,560
gameplay style would like shift.
So there was like the horde mode

964
00:49:23,560 --> 00:49:25,680
defending the barn against the
aliens.

965
00:49:25,880 --> 00:49:29,120
Then there's a Pokémon snap.
River cruise, Derek.

966
00:49:29,280 --> 00:49:30,320
Hell yeah.
Right.

967
00:49:30,600 --> 00:49:32,720
Like, is that the most Derek
thing you've ever seen in your

968
00:49:32,720 --> 00:49:35,040
freaking life?
Right, thrown it back to my OG

969
00:49:35,040 --> 00:49:38,680
appearance.
And and then swimming as the

970
00:49:38,680 --> 00:49:41,640
Zora through Great Bay and
dolphin jumping.

971
00:49:41,640 --> 00:49:45,880
And you've never moved this fast
in an N64 game so graceful.

972
00:49:46,480 --> 00:49:50,720
The rail shooter defend the
caravan betting on freaking dog

973
00:49:50,720 --> 00:49:54,280
races.
Go Boo dog.

974
00:49:54,880 --> 00:49:56,920
This was like.
GTA before and everyone was

975
00:49:56,920 --> 00:49:59,080
like, Oh my God, GTA, you can
actually go bowling.

976
00:49:59,080 --> 00:50:02,760
Majora's Mass did that and
didn't even brag about it like

977
00:50:02,800 --> 00:50:06,240
25 years ago.
So was there anything else we

978
00:50:06,240 --> 00:50:09,360
liked about this game before we
move into our next segment?

979
00:50:10,040 --> 00:50:11,800
I mean, it's it's just like
everything, right?

980
00:50:11,800 --> 00:50:14,880
It's like you said, there's just
so much to do here.

981
00:50:15,160 --> 00:50:19,520
And as, like I said, as good as
the main plot of this is where

982
00:50:19,520 --> 00:50:22,400
you're going up against Skull
Kid and who, by the way, like

983
00:50:22,720 --> 00:50:25,160
you feel for the Skull Kid.
He's like Gander is like evil,

984
00:50:25,160 --> 00:50:28,680
whereas Skull Kid is like this
poor misguided him who is, you

985
00:50:28,680 --> 00:50:31,720
know, been hurt by his friend.
He's been kind of gets used as a

986
00:50:31,720 --> 00:50:35,160
literal puppet, but and that's
all great, but what's really,

987
00:50:35,160 --> 00:50:37,800
really works for this game is
going and talking to these

988
00:50:37,800 --> 00:50:40,240
people and interacting with
their lives and really getting

989
00:50:40,240 --> 00:50:42,880
to know them.
And just to talk to a little bit

990
00:50:42,880 --> 00:50:46,080
about the Cafe one.
That is the quest where you

991
00:50:46,080 --> 00:50:48,040
start to meet like every you're
meeting all these different

992
00:50:48,040 --> 00:50:49,720
people, you're meeting postman
and Cafe's mom.

993
00:50:49,880 --> 00:50:52,080
You're going in and out of the
city and you have to go to

994
00:50:52,080 --> 00:50:53,760
specific places at specific
times.

995
00:50:54,360 --> 00:50:55,360
You have to go to seconds hide
on.

996
00:50:55,360 --> 00:50:57,760
It's hard that that like if that
thing is hard, you actually

997
00:50:57,760 --> 00:51:02,640
control Cafe for a second and
then to the reward at the end of

998
00:51:02,640 --> 00:51:06,000
that is so like it's so
fulfilling.

999
00:51:06,400 --> 00:51:10,040
And that I don't think there's
been very many moments in any

1000
00:51:10,040 --> 00:51:13,080
video game that touched me as
much as you're there with Andrew

1001
00:51:13,520 --> 00:51:15,640
and you're waiting for Cafe to
come and you're just like, when

1002
00:51:15,640 --> 00:51:17,480
is he going to get here?
And the moon is going to fall.

1003
00:51:17,680 --> 00:51:21,160
And she is like, I have accepted
my fate because if you don't,

1004
00:51:21,160 --> 00:51:22,640
she will leave.
She'll go to Romani Ranch.

1005
00:51:22,920 --> 00:51:25,520
But if you intervene, she's
like, I trust that he's going to

1006
00:51:25,520 --> 00:51:28,800
come here, whatever happens.
And then when he finally gets

1007
00:51:28,800 --> 00:51:33,960
there with like a minute left,
they're about to be obliterated

1008
00:51:33,960 --> 00:51:37,560
by this thing and they're like,
whatever happens, we are going

1009
00:51:37,560 --> 00:51:41,080
to face the morning together.
How can you not be romantic

1010
00:51:41,080 --> 00:51:43,000
about that?
That was the whole sub quest I

1011
00:51:43,000 --> 00:51:50,120
skipped.
You got it's Oh my gosh, I that

1012
00:51:50,240 --> 00:51:52,120
because I said the aliens was my
second favorite.

1013
00:51:52,320 --> 00:51:54,920
That is my number one with a
bullet because it's that, but

1014
00:51:55,040 --> 00:51:56,520
it's like a branching side
quest.

1015
00:51:56,520 --> 00:51:58,920
It's like multiple side quests.
And if you want to get

1016
00:51:58,920 --> 00:52:02,520
everything in it, you have to do
it at least two times because

1017
00:52:02,520 --> 00:52:04,600
there's two different you can
either give the the letter to

1018
00:52:04,640 --> 00:52:07,000
the postman or his mom.
They'll both give you a mask.

1019
00:52:07,200 --> 00:52:10,760
So it's it's one of those things
that it just it makes the game

1020
00:52:10,800 --> 00:52:12,000
right.
And you don't need to do it to

1021
00:52:12,000 --> 00:52:15,480
beat it, like you said, but it's
so rewarding if you do.

1022
00:52:16,080 --> 00:52:19,840
And, and I'll say also, if you
do, in those end scenes we

1023
00:52:19,840 --> 00:52:22,440
talked about, you get to see
their wedding.

1024
00:52:22,920 --> 00:52:24,680
Oh my God.
Oh my God.

1025
00:52:25,640 --> 00:52:27,800
These characters mean so much to
you, Derek.

1026
00:52:27,800 --> 00:52:29,400
They really do.
They really.

1027
00:52:29,400 --> 00:52:33,040
Do I love it?
I Yeah, I could heap praise on

1028
00:52:33,040 --> 00:52:38,120
this game all day long.
The enemies are more

1029
00:52:38,120 --> 00:52:44,320
interesting, the combat is more
varied, the tools are a little

1030
00:52:44,320 --> 00:52:48,080
more polished.
The very first thing you do in

1031
00:52:48,080 --> 00:52:51,360
this game is you jump up 3
stumps and they immediately show

1032
00:52:51,360 --> 00:52:53,640
you, hey, this is not the same
game by the jumps being very

1033
00:52:53,640 --> 00:52:55,520
different, right?
He does a gainer now he does a

1034
00:52:55,520 --> 00:53:00,640
flip and that just sets you up
for this is the same but better.

1035
00:53:00,640 --> 00:53:05,400
And that feeling stuck with me
the entire time I played it, and

1036
00:53:05,400 --> 00:53:09,040
it was absolutely reinvigorated
playing it again to remind

1037
00:53:09,040 --> 00:53:10,760
myself of everything for the
podcast.

1038
00:53:11,360 --> 00:53:14,320
I think it's a rich,
interesting, fascinating Wizard

1039
00:53:14,320 --> 00:53:18,600
of Oz take on Ocarina and I I
absolutely adore it.

1040
00:53:19,040 --> 00:53:21,160
Mike, was there anything that
you liked about the game?

1041
00:53:21,160 --> 00:53:23,880
Because I'm getting the sense
you had trouble with it, I

1042
00:53:23,880 --> 00:53:26,120
think.
With some reservations, I think

1043
00:53:26,120 --> 00:53:30,120
a lot of the plot stuff that was
going on within the town is at

1044
00:53:30,120 --> 00:53:33,400
least the part that I that I
found more interesting.

1045
00:53:33,880 --> 00:53:35,600
And then you just have to leave
the town and do stuff.

1046
00:53:36,920 --> 00:53:39,600
And how a lot of that worked, I
was less thrilled on.

1047
00:53:39,760 --> 00:53:43,880
But I think that that like once
I had that notebook and I was

1048
00:53:43,880 --> 00:53:48,200
like, OK, I can, if I can find
the right people, I can get some

1049
00:53:48,200 --> 00:53:50,480
of this.
Like I started to do some, I did

1050
00:53:50,480 --> 00:53:53,800
some of those tasks.
I don't think any anything to

1051
00:53:53,880 --> 00:53:58,280
like the full like happiness
stickers on there, but like like

1052
00:53:58,280 --> 00:54:02,280
the training with the postman
that I somehow got the 10 second

1053
00:54:02,440 --> 00:54:05,240
thing.
Yeah, I like what I.

1054
00:54:05,280 --> 00:54:07,280
Cheated.
I have to cheat to do that too.

1055
00:54:07,360 --> 00:54:10,040
I cheated.
I don't know how that happened.

1056
00:54:10,280 --> 00:54:12,400
Amazing.
Took me about like four or five

1057
00:54:12,400 --> 00:54:13,960
tries.
Mike's, that's the result.

1058
00:54:13,960 --> 00:54:17,760
The player here, did you, did
you attempt Gore on racing?

1059
00:54:17,760 --> 00:54:20,720
Did you get that?
Yes.

1060
00:54:21,440 --> 00:54:22,080
Did you?
Did you win?

1061
00:54:22,080 --> 00:54:24,720
Did you get the gold dust?
Yeah, I'm gonna have our that's

1062
00:54:24,720 --> 00:54:25,880
gonna come up in the later
segment.

1063
00:54:29,560 --> 00:54:32,240
I I shocked myself this time
around.

1064
00:54:32,240 --> 00:54:35,480
I haven't done it in years and I
managed it in three tries.

1065
00:54:35,840 --> 00:54:40,280
Absolutely flabbergasted.
I my heart was beating so hard

1066
00:54:40,280 --> 00:54:42,120
when I was like I'm gonna do it
cuz I didn't give myself that

1067
00:54:42,120 --> 00:54:44,640
much time to try right?
I thought I'll do it a few times

1068
00:54:44,640 --> 00:54:46,240
and I'll move on so I can beat
the game.

1069
00:54:46,680 --> 00:54:49,880
Shocked shook it.
The skills from childhood

1070
00:54:50,280 --> 00:54:51,840
reemerge.
Good for you.

1071
00:54:52,320 --> 00:54:54,560
Thank you.
My skill was holding down the

1072
00:54:54,560 --> 00:54:56,880
minus button and rewinding when
I made a mistake.

1073
00:54:57,360 --> 00:55:01,040
I think I I think I got first
place in about 45 seconds, but

1074
00:55:01,080 --> 00:55:02,320
it.
Out.

1075
00:55:02,480 --> 00:55:06,400
Oh my God, never mind.
But the Goran though, the Sonic

1076
00:55:06,400 --> 00:55:09,960
the Hedgehog spin attack that
you can do that Riri's referring

1077
00:55:09,960 --> 00:55:12,280
to you're it's a race against
all these other Gorans and

1078
00:55:12,280 --> 00:55:15,320
they're all rolling and they're
all going up boosts and jumps

1079
00:55:15,320 --> 00:55:18,160
and it's so thrilling.
But then that also is my

1080
00:55:18,160 --> 00:55:22,280
favorite boss fight against GOAT
the the big bowl.

1081
00:55:22,840 --> 00:55:27,320
Oh yeah, absolutely.
Yes, that's such a good boss

1082
00:55:27,320 --> 00:55:29,480
fight.
Completely agree, top tier.

1083
00:55:29,880 --> 00:55:34,280
It's in this donut arena with
walls, so it's roller Derby.

1084
00:55:34,640 --> 00:55:38,680
It's you versus the giant bowl.
Roller Derby, fight to the

1085
00:55:38,680 --> 00:55:41,400
death.
That's just a cool sentence.

1086
00:55:41,840 --> 00:55:44,040
That's like a movie Mike would
own.

1087
00:55:46,360 --> 00:55:50,880
Derek, get on that movie.
What you've just described is

1088
00:55:50,880 --> 00:55:52,320
roller ball.
You know that, right?

1089
00:55:52,680 --> 00:55:54,960
I've never seen roller ball but
I've heard legend.

1090
00:55:55,400 --> 00:55:56,800
It's a date, you guys got to
watch it.

1091
00:55:56,800 --> 00:55:59,240
Right, the original or the
remakes that.

1092
00:55:59,800 --> 00:56:01,480
First one, then the represent.
Of jail.

1093
00:56:01,840 --> 00:56:02,960
Bit of both.
OK.

1094
00:56:03,920 --> 00:56:08,560
Well, I had a quick mini game
minute, although we still want

1095
00:56:08,600 --> 00:56:11,920
to play it.
Yes, yes, multiple minutes.

1096
00:56:12,320 --> 00:56:14,960
I like your mini game minutes.
I just wanted to do 1.

1097
00:56:15,320 --> 00:56:16,720
I like them.
Thank you.

1098
00:56:16,720 --> 00:56:17,480
Rhode Island.
Rhode Island.

1099
00:56:17,800 --> 00:56:21,320
So this one's, this one's called
2 Masks and a Lie.

1100
00:56:21,480 --> 00:56:24,400
In this mini game, each player
will list 3 costumes they've

1101
00:56:24,400 --> 00:56:27,280
worn at some point in their
lives, with the caveat that one

1102
00:56:27,280 --> 00:56:30,600
of them is totally fake news,
challenging the others to guess

1103
00:56:30,600 --> 00:56:34,200
which mask is not to be trusted.
Derek, what's yours?

1104
00:56:34,720 --> 00:56:39,280
I will say my three are 11 from
Stranger Things.

1105
00:56:39,840 --> 00:56:45,480
A literal wall or skulken.
Keeping a Majora's Mask themed

1106
00:56:45,480 --> 00:56:47,400
here.
I feel like Skull Kid.

1107
00:56:47,520 --> 00:56:51,120
I think it's a trap.
I think he wants us to assume he

1108
00:56:51,120 --> 00:56:54,720
must have dressed up as Skull
Kid, but he loves Skull Kid.

1109
00:56:55,320 --> 00:56:59,000
I'm gonna I'm gonna agree cuz
that's I know how much foam work

1110
00:56:59,000 --> 00:57:03,480
that is if he had a skull kid.
I think they sold them.

1111
00:57:03,800 --> 00:57:06,720
OK, never mind.
I think I remember those being

1112
00:57:06,720 --> 00:57:08,600
in stores the year this game
came out.

1113
00:57:09,520 --> 00:57:10,240
Maybe they.
Were.

1114
00:57:10,240 --> 00:57:11,200
Maybe they were?
Maybe they were.

1115
00:57:11,280 --> 00:57:12,920
And then what was the first one
again?

1116
00:57:13,520 --> 00:57:18,680
The first one was 11 from
Stranger Things, Complete and

1117
00:57:18,800 --> 00:57:22,760
with complete with the egos.
Take off your glasses and hat, I

1118
00:57:22,760 --> 00:57:23,800
want to see you.
No, I'm kidding.

1119
00:57:25,080 --> 00:57:27,000
I'm.
I'm going to guess he was never

1120
00:57:27,000 --> 00:57:28,480
Skull Kid.
That's my guess.

1121
00:57:28,960 --> 00:57:31,440
I I have to say the same.
I.

1122
00:57:31,880 --> 00:57:36,440
Feel like a Skull Kid costume
would have come up in the past

1123
00:57:36,440 --> 00:57:39,320
and I don't think it has if it
had happened.

1124
00:57:39,840 --> 00:57:41,800
So you're also guessing he never
dressed as Skull Kid.

1125
00:57:42,000 --> 00:57:43,600
I think I'm also going to go
with that.

1126
00:57:44,000 --> 00:57:45,080
All right, Derek.
All right.

1127
00:57:45,080 --> 00:57:46,600
You guys all got it?
Yeah.

1128
00:57:47,400 --> 00:57:49,040
Oh nice.
I was.

1129
00:57:49,240 --> 00:57:52,640
That's too much work, man.
I was like you know what?

1130
00:57:52,640 --> 00:57:54,400
I'll say Skull Kid because I I'm
here.

1131
00:57:54,480 --> 00:57:58,480
I have been in link multiple
times, but I have never been

1132
00:57:58,480 --> 00:58:02,760
Skull Kid.
I was 11 for Halloween in 2016

1133
00:58:03,200 --> 00:58:08,000
with a complete with a blonde
wig, a box of egos and a pink

1134
00:58:08,000 --> 00:58:11,440
dress.
I was also a literal wall in a

1135
00:58:11,440 --> 00:58:13,280
production of A Midsummer
Night's Dream.

1136
00:58:13,760 --> 00:58:16,880
None of us, none of us
questioned Wall at all, by the

1137
00:58:16,880 --> 00:58:18,120
way.
You noticed that?

1138
00:58:18,880 --> 00:58:20,320
Yeah, you guys are like there in
the wall.

1139
00:58:20,640 --> 00:58:23,960
Yeah, that's that checks out.
But oh, but in bottoms play.

1140
00:58:24,160 --> 00:58:26,080
Exactly so in the in the.
Wall.

1141
00:58:26,240 --> 00:58:27,520
Yeah, exactly.
Good.

1142
00:58:28,160 --> 00:58:31,000
So that that's it.
So you guys, we're all tied now.

1143
00:58:31,000 --> 00:58:35,320
Everyone has one point.
All right, Mike, you're up.

1144
00:58:35,960 --> 00:58:37,920
All right, I'm choosing to give
4.

1145
00:58:38,280 --> 00:58:41,000
All right, the mushroom.
The Caterpillar from Alice in

1146
00:58:41,000 --> 00:58:43,840
Wonderland sits on from the
Disney's Main Street Electrical

1147
00:58:43,840 --> 00:58:48,040
Parade, the square piece from
Tetris, the Lighthouse of

1148
00:58:48,040 --> 00:58:52,320
Alexandria, and the house that
the party was being held in.

1149
00:58:52,760 --> 00:58:55,640
Man, I know one of your costumes
and you didn't pick it.

1150
00:58:56,080 --> 00:58:58,160
This is cheating.
You're giving us an extra 1

1151
00:58:58,160 --> 00:59:02,400
That's harder for us.
I know it, I know, I know my

1152
00:59:02,400 --> 00:59:04,480
boy.
OK, say him again, Mike, please.

1153
00:59:04,840 --> 00:59:07,440
The mushroom the Caterpillar
from Alice in Wonderland sits on

1154
00:59:07,440 --> 00:59:10,000
from Disney's Main Street
Electrical Parade, the

1155
00:59:10,000 --> 00:59:14,120
Lighthouse of Alexandria, the
square piece from Tetris, and

1156
00:59:14,120 --> 00:59:15,920
the house that the party was
being held in.

1157
00:59:16,240 --> 00:59:18,840
That the house thing seems like
some shit Mike would do for

1158
00:59:18,840 --> 00:59:20,960
sure.
A. 100% because he dressed as

1159
00:59:20,960 --> 00:59:24,400
the Hubble Space Telescope one
time at an astronomy party.

1160
00:59:24,680 --> 00:59:26,480
Oh, we know.
He bragged about that on the

1161
00:59:26,480 --> 00:59:28,040
past season.
Amazing.

1162
00:59:28,280 --> 00:59:30,360
I thought he was going to.
I thought for sure I'd have that

1163
00:59:30,400 --> 00:59:31,680
one.
The Rizler.

1164
00:59:32,040 --> 00:59:34,480
And, and the fact that he
specified from the electrical

1165
00:59:34,480 --> 00:59:37,320
parade and not from the movie is
like, OK, so that seems like

1166
00:59:37,320 --> 00:59:40,880
it's that one.
So it's between the Tetris block

1167
00:59:40,920 --> 00:59:43,000
and the library.
Was it the lighthouse of

1168
00:59:43,000 --> 00:59:44,360
Alexandria?
The lighthouse of.

1169
00:59:44,360 --> 00:59:46,520
Alexandria.
I swear I've seen the Tetris 1.

1170
00:59:46,840 --> 00:59:49,240
Yeah, I was leaning towards the
the the lighthouse.

1171
00:59:49,440 --> 00:59:52,000
I I think it's the lighthouse.
That's gonna be my answer.

1172
00:59:52,000 --> 00:59:54,800
I could see, I could see you
just walking around like in a

1173
00:59:54,800 --> 00:59:57,280
tea formation all day.
Yeah, I feel like a lot of

1174
00:59:57,280 --> 01:00:00,040
Mike's costumes are structures
instead of characters.

1175
01:00:00,480 --> 01:00:01,440
Right.
Yeah.

1176
01:00:02,280 --> 01:00:03,680
Though Derek was the wall guy,
I'm.

1177
01:00:06,440 --> 01:00:10,480
Gonna go to the mushroom thing.
All right, Mike, I know you were

1178
01:00:10,480 --> 01:00:13,280
the mushroom.
With working lights.

1179
01:00:14,200 --> 01:00:16,200
I remember.
And music.

1180
01:00:16,360 --> 01:00:18,760
And smoke.
I also remember the lighthouse

1181
01:00:18,760 --> 01:00:21,680
of Alexandria, right?
Yes.

1182
01:00:21,960 --> 01:00:25,120
Yeah, I think you're throwing us
for a loop because I believe you

1183
01:00:25,120 --> 01:00:27,960
were the straight piece from
Tetris, not the square.

1184
01:00:28,000 --> 01:00:30,200
So I'm saying that's the lie.
Yes.

1185
01:00:32,400 --> 01:00:34,120
Wow, that's.
My boy, I almost went with that.

1186
01:00:34,120 --> 01:00:35,720
You just had to give us four and
said.

1187
01:00:36,120 --> 01:00:38,040
Yeah, I couldn't.
I couldn't remember the piece,

1188
01:00:38,040 --> 01:00:40,120
but I was like, I swear he did a
group Tetris thing.

1189
01:00:40,120 --> 01:00:43,120
I think I saw it.
Yeah, just the one I I will Add

1190
01:00:43,680 --> 01:00:47,000
all four of those were based on
Halloween parties, the same

1191
01:00:47,000 --> 01:00:50,200
house.
The house costume was the last

1192
01:00:50,200 --> 01:00:51,520
year they were going to do a
party there.

1193
01:00:52,160 --> 01:00:54,560
Nice.
And so the veranda of the house

1194
01:00:54,920 --> 01:00:59,720
costume has miniature versions
of all the previous costumes.

1195
01:00:59,720 --> 01:01:00,520
Oh.
My.

1196
01:01:00,960 --> 01:01:02,320
God, all of your.
Previous costumes.

1197
01:01:02,320 --> 01:01:04,640
All of my previous costumes.
That's pretty great.

1198
01:01:04,680 --> 01:01:06,480
Which there's.
Got to be pictures of this

1199
01:01:06,480 --> 01:01:09,160
somewhere.
Yes, honestly the veranda is

1200
01:01:09,160 --> 01:01:11,920
still like in my apartment
because I didn't have the heart

1201
01:01:11,920 --> 01:01:13,720
to get rid of it.
You got to show it to me

1202
01:01:13,760 --> 01:01:15,840
sometime.
It's like the yeah, like the

1203
01:01:15,840 --> 01:01:19,280
little, the little article float
like lights up on that.

1204
01:01:19,480 --> 01:01:21,960
It's like a cut out and some
lights, like it's not super

1205
01:01:21,960 --> 01:01:24,920
fancy, but they were all
represented there.

1206
01:01:24,920 --> 01:01:27,760
I think I've only ever done 1/1,
at least for the parties there.

1207
01:01:27,760 --> 01:01:30,480
That was like a normal person
costume.

1208
01:01:30,480 --> 01:01:33,000
And then everyone felt like I
cheaped out because they'd

1209
01:01:33,000 --> 01:01:36,520
switched themes late.
And they went from like fairy

1210
01:01:36,520 --> 01:01:40,680
tales, myths and legit and
something to nurse rhymes to

1211
01:01:40,680 --> 01:01:43,400
just legends.
And I went as the host from

1212
01:01:43,400 --> 01:01:45,720
Legends of the Hidden Temple,
which is basically like a shirt

1213
01:01:45,720 --> 01:01:47,640
and cargo shorts and like a
microphone.

1214
01:01:50,120 --> 01:01:51,400
We all wanted to be on that
show.

1215
01:01:51,400 --> 01:01:56,560
You're the last one.
All right, OK, so I have been a

1216
01:01:56,560 --> 01:02:02,440
cosplayer for a long time, so
I'm gonna Mike was here for lots

1217
01:02:02,440 --> 01:02:04,200
of these.
Mike was living in Nashville.

1218
01:02:05,120 --> 01:02:07,720
So I'm gonna try and and trip
Mike up.

1219
01:02:08,160 --> 01:02:09,160
I think he's gonna get it,
though.

1220
01:02:09,360 --> 01:02:15,080
I'm not nearly that confident.
So I love Dragon Con and so

1221
01:02:15,080 --> 01:02:18,880
there's something called Dragon
Con TV that plays in the hotels.

1222
01:02:19,440 --> 01:02:23,560
And so one year I went as a host
from Dragon Con TVA, very

1223
01:02:23,560 --> 01:02:28,080
distinctive host.
And then one year I went as

1224
01:02:28,080 --> 01:02:33,680
Gandalf, both grey and white
including beards, and one year I

1225
01:02:33,680 --> 01:02:40,200
went as Medusa from Soul Leader.
I feel like she's she's a clever

1226
01:02:40,200 --> 01:02:43,960
one, and I think that the whole
like, oh, grey and white.

1227
01:02:43,960 --> 01:02:46,000
I think that was meant to throw
us off the trail.

1228
01:02:46,000 --> 01:02:48,800
I don't think she ever went as
Gandalf because Soul Eater.

1229
01:02:48,800 --> 01:02:51,920
It's it's niche enough that it'd
be weird to her to make that up

1230
01:02:52,280 --> 01:02:55,280
and going as the host.
I think that's also kind of I'm

1231
01:02:55,280 --> 01:02:56,880
guessing the Gandalf is the
fake.

1232
01:02:56,880 --> 01:02:59,040
All right, Derek should go next,
right?

1233
01:02:59,760 --> 01:03:01,560
Sorry, say them again for me one
more time please, A.

1234
01:03:01,760 --> 01:03:04,760
Host from Dragon Con TV which is
a reference to you know, the

1235
01:03:04,760 --> 01:03:07,680
convention.
Dragon Con Medusa from Soul

1236
01:03:07,680 --> 01:03:11,200
Eater which is anime and Gandalf
from Lord of the Rings.

1237
01:03:11,720 --> 01:03:13,720
Gray and white.
Gray and white bit of both.

1238
01:03:14,000 --> 01:03:16,720
I'm just going to take a total
guess here and say Medusa.

1239
01:03:17,240 --> 01:03:20,040
OK, Mike.
I know about her having Gandalf

1240
01:03:20,040 --> 01:03:21,200
costumes.
Dang it.

1241
01:03:21,520 --> 01:03:26,960
Oh yeah.
Of the other two, I think I'm

1242
01:03:26,960 --> 01:03:30,600
going to guess that the Dragon
Con TV thing was a thing that

1243
01:03:30,600 --> 01:03:33,880
you would do.
And so because that just that

1244
01:03:33,880 --> 01:03:37,880
feels very, there was a lot of
back explanation to include

1245
01:03:37,880 --> 01:03:39,960
that.
So I'm going to also guess

1246
01:03:39,960 --> 01:03:42,400
Medusa.
You're all wrong bitches.

1247
01:03:45,080 --> 01:03:48,200
Medusa.
I cosplayed while Mike was here,

1248
01:03:48,560 --> 01:03:50,400
but I wouldn't know if he would
remember that one.

1249
01:03:50,520 --> 01:03:53,800
That was my first group cosplay
was we all did Soul Eater,

1250
01:03:54,840 --> 01:03:59,040
Gandalf the White and Gray.
I made a burlesque act for

1251
01:03:59,040 --> 01:04:03,280
Gandalf Big Naturals, and I
start as Gandalf the Gray and I

1252
01:04:03,280 --> 01:04:07,040
slowly become Gandalf the White.
It's my favorite thing I've ever

1253
01:04:07,040 --> 01:04:09,040
done and I've reprised it at
Dragon Con this last year.

1254
01:04:09,040 --> 01:04:12,400
That was on Instagram, so I was
like, Mike has seen that

1255
01:04:12,400 --> 01:04:15,480
picture.
Season 4 is starting off juicy.

1256
01:04:15,760 --> 01:04:19,040
You'll notice you'll notice
Riri's theme of costumes that

1257
01:04:19,040 --> 01:04:24,400
turn people to stone.
And I have never done a DCTV

1258
01:04:24,400 --> 01:04:26,480
cosplay.
I would absolutely love to

1259
01:04:27,480 --> 01:04:30,640
Dragon Con Referential cosplays
are usually a big hit at dragon.

1260
01:04:30,920 --> 01:04:32,520
It's my favorite convention in
the whole.

1261
01:04:32,520 --> 01:04:34,120
I think I just got that joke
Mike made.

1262
01:04:36,760 --> 01:04:40,760
Well, that means that I am the
winner. 2 points.

1263
01:04:40,800 --> 01:04:42,480
Gigi's.
That was fun.

1264
01:04:42,720 --> 01:04:45,080
Gigi for me.
If you guys are interested I did

1265
01:04:45,080 --> 01:04:48,920
just in our our our discord
chat.

1266
01:04:48,920 --> 01:04:51,040
Dropped my costumes.
I guess I better.

1267
01:04:51,040 --> 01:04:53,720
My gosh.
I better I better show J MO big

1268
01:04:53,720 --> 01:04:59,840
naturals because it was a hit.
Well, you know what's not a hit?

1269
01:04:59,840 --> 01:05:02,920
The joy cons of Majora's Mask.
It's not perfect.

1270
01:05:02,920 --> 01:05:05,640
So I feel like Mike has some
things that he's got to get off

1271
01:05:05,640 --> 01:05:10,760
his chest or anyway.
Some big naturals.

1272
01:05:10,800 --> 01:05:14,440
Mike, take it away, please.
I think I have two main issues

1273
01:05:14,440 --> 01:05:17,040
with this.
The first is like operating of

1274
01:05:17,040 --> 01:05:19,400
Time.
What I enjoyed a lot was the

1275
01:05:19,400 --> 01:05:24,640
exploration puzzle parts.
And I think with Majora's Mask,

1276
01:05:24,640 --> 01:05:28,120
I felt like I was having to do a
lot more platforming that I do

1277
01:05:28,120 --> 01:05:34,120
not like with how this handles.
And I think the time cycle

1278
01:05:34,600 --> 01:05:38,200
really clashes with a
significant portion of sort of

1279
01:05:38,200 --> 01:05:41,480
the trying to work through
puzzles with the amount of stuff

1280
01:05:41,480 --> 01:05:44,720
that just resets.
And so there's I think for me, a

1281
01:05:44,720 --> 01:05:48,920
lot was frustrating to finally
figure something out, but figure

1282
01:05:48,920 --> 01:05:51,360
out it out without enough time
to do anything.

1283
01:05:51,760 --> 01:05:55,040
And while in town with a lot of
those quests, you have that

1284
01:05:55,040 --> 01:05:58,040
notebook of figure out what you
want to be doing.

1285
01:05:59,200 --> 01:06:03,320
A lot of the game writ large,
there wasn't sort of a OK, I

1286
01:06:03,320 --> 01:06:05,880
figured this out and it's
tracked it would be OK.

1287
01:06:05,880 --> 01:06:10,360
I did all these things.
Which ones were right things?

1288
01:06:10,880 --> 01:06:15,640
And so I think overall, for me,
the time constraint really

1289
01:06:15,640 --> 01:06:19,320
impeded sort of it going through
the game at a pace that I was

1290
01:06:19,320 --> 01:06:21,120
enjoying.
But you guys said there was like

1291
01:06:21,120 --> 01:06:23,600
a notebook that would keep track
of how you've influenced the

1292
01:06:23,600 --> 01:06:24,600
town.
I never found it.

1293
01:06:24,680 --> 01:06:26,040
Really.
He never did the Bombers

1294
01:06:26,040 --> 01:06:26,840
notebook.
It's the one of the.

1295
01:06:26,840 --> 01:06:29,160
First things you get it's.
The first thing you ever do?

1296
01:06:29,520 --> 01:06:32,640
He never came out of the
bomber's hideout as regular

1297
01:06:32,640 --> 01:06:34,360
Link.
He only came out as Deku Link.

1298
01:06:34,600 --> 01:06:37,240
Yeah, that's exactly how you
skip that.

1299
01:06:37,960 --> 01:06:40,200
Yeah, cuz if you just talk to
the bombers again.

1300
01:06:40,280 --> 01:06:41,960
Wait, that that's how you get
that.

1301
01:06:42,280 --> 01:06:45,640
You get the notebook that keeps
track of everyone you've helped.

1302
01:06:45,800 --> 01:06:48,000
And it's permanent.
If you do it once, it's done

1303
01:06:48,000 --> 01:06:49,640
forever in the notebook, no
matter how many times you

1304
01:06:49,640 --> 01:06:52,000
restart your cycle.
I had to or.

1305
01:06:52,240 --> 01:06:54,840
I.
Had to redo that stupid find the

1306
01:06:54,880 --> 01:06:58,800
bombers thing and then just like
switch to human at the end.

1307
01:06:59,280 --> 01:07:01,400
Yep, that's a very valid way to
do it.

1308
01:07:01,560 --> 01:07:03,800
I just.
But I think that does support

1309
01:07:03,800 --> 01:07:07,840
Mike's assertion that some of
the logic in this game is kind

1310
01:07:07,840 --> 01:07:10,560
of convoluted or like a term you
taught me.

1311
01:07:10,560 --> 01:07:13,440
It's kind of moon logic.
Sometimes, you know, there's

1312
01:07:13,440 --> 01:07:16,800
certain things like, oh, this
will only happen if you look a

1313
01:07:16,800 --> 01:07:20,720
certain way, but there's no real
indication of how you should be

1314
01:07:20,720 --> 01:07:22,840
looking and what mask you should
be wearing.

1315
01:07:23,240 --> 01:07:26,120
There is one part later in the
game where you have to let an

1316
01:07:26,120 --> 01:07:29,760
enemy grab you so that it tosses
you out onto a platform.

1317
01:07:30,080 --> 01:07:31,760
Don't tell the other.
The what?

1318
01:07:32,280 --> 01:07:33,200
So don't tell the other.
Don't.

1319
01:07:34,120 --> 01:07:39,600
Don't Tossmer.
Yeah, but like, but, you know,

1320
01:07:39,640 --> 01:07:42,360
the whole game you're trying not
to get grabbed by these freaking

1321
01:07:42,360 --> 01:07:45,440
things all but this one time.
That's how you solve the puzzle.

1322
01:07:45,600 --> 01:07:48,360
Kind of clever, sure, but also
kind of annoying.

1323
01:07:48,600 --> 01:07:50,800
The light puzzle.
Derek, reread this.

1324
01:07:50,920 --> 01:07:53,120
Wrinkles my brain because that
is not how physics work.

1325
01:07:53,280 --> 01:07:55,520
You know this.
Is a fantasy world.

1326
01:07:55,520 --> 01:07:59,200
JK Light still follows the laws
of this.

1327
01:07:59,360 --> 01:08:03,080
Is the guy who was saying, well,
you know, don't think about the

1328
01:08:03,080 --> 01:08:05,320
rules of Fred Claus.
It's too much.

1329
01:08:05,320 --> 01:08:11,760
It's a fantasy world.
Previous podcasts against this

1330
01:08:11,760 --> 01:08:15,320
man.
OK, sorry, I just thought the

1331
01:08:15,320 --> 01:08:17,560
mirrors were MM.
You're a scientist.

1332
01:08:17,560 --> 01:08:21,120
OK, Yeah.
Optics labs were a pain in the

1333
01:08:21,120 --> 01:08:22,960
neck, right?
They always are.

1334
01:08:23,240 --> 01:08:26,840
Yeah.
So this one, light, light don't

1335
01:08:26,840 --> 01:08:27,640
light.
Don't do that.

1336
01:08:27,680 --> 01:08:29,880
Light don't.
OK, it does not do it in the

1337
01:08:29,880 --> 01:08:35,399
real world, but the logic in the
game is consistent and the rules

1338
01:08:35,399 --> 01:08:37,240
in the game is are consistent
about.

1339
01:08:37,240 --> 01:08:38,760
That's the way light works in
the game.

1340
01:08:39,080 --> 01:08:43,720
So Mike, this puzzle, you have
to shine the light right at the

1341
01:08:43,720 --> 01:08:47,920
mirror for like let's say 10
seconds, and then the light will

1342
01:08:47,920 --> 01:08:50,920
continue to shine out of the
mirror for 10 seconds.

1343
01:08:50,960 --> 01:08:52,359
You're charging the mirror with
light.

1344
01:08:52,359 --> 01:08:53,720
You're.
Charging the mirror or there's

1345
01:08:53,720 --> 01:08:57,279
like, there's some weird delay
that happens and then you have

1346
01:08:57,279 --> 01:08:59,920
to run into the path of the
reflection you just made to then

1347
01:08:59,920 --> 01:09:01,359
point it to a different
direction.

1348
01:09:01,680 --> 01:09:04,439
And you're basically kind of
tossing light back and forth,

1349
01:09:04,560 --> 01:09:08,399
which sounds cool, but I was
just like, I don't know, to me,

1350
01:09:08,399 --> 01:09:11,520
a really good Zelda puzzle, it
like feels obvious once you

1351
01:09:11,520 --> 01:09:13,080
figure it out.
And I was like, that was a

1352
01:09:13,080 --> 01:09:15,319
little weird because I wouldn't
think to try that.

1353
01:09:15,800 --> 01:09:17,600
But it teaches you right before
that.

1354
01:09:17,600 --> 01:09:21,080
I feel like I I naturally did
that because my hands just

1355
01:09:21,080 --> 01:09:23,720
aren't that steady, right?
I'm a very lackadaisical

1356
01:09:23,720 --> 01:09:25,680
platformer.
I will get grabbed and tossed

1357
01:09:25,680 --> 01:09:27,160
and go, oh, I needed that,
thanks.

1358
01:09:27,319 --> 01:09:30,080
Or an enemy will hit me right up
onto the platform I was trying

1359
01:09:30,080 --> 01:09:31,560
to get on.
Oh, thanks, Octre Ruck.

1360
01:09:31,560 --> 01:09:33,040
I needed that boost.
You know what I mean?

1361
01:09:33,279 --> 01:09:37,840
So this like I just noticed it,
it had it lingered right?

1362
01:09:37,840 --> 01:09:40,080
And exactly, yeah, it can go
catch it.

1363
01:09:41,160 --> 01:09:43,120
I'll start this issue at a much
more base level.

1364
01:09:43,120 --> 01:09:46,840
One of the very early things you
have to do is get one of the is

1365
01:09:47,120 --> 01:09:53,359
like, go into this version's
Lost Woods and find one of the

1366
01:09:53,359 --> 01:09:56,480
the.
Either kome.

1367
01:09:57,320 --> 01:09:59,000
Kome I think is her name.
Right.

1368
01:09:59,000 --> 01:10:00,520
Yeah, and.
Kotake, Kotake.

1369
01:10:02,160 --> 01:10:04,800
And so here's how this work for
me is like when I got down there

1370
01:10:04,800 --> 01:10:07,320
and, you know, I get down there
in time to see one of them fly

1371
01:10:07,320 --> 01:10:11,640
off and find that she's looking
for the other and then follow

1372
01:10:11,640 --> 01:10:13,320
that monkey and find the one
that's crashed.

1373
01:10:13,320 --> 01:10:15,960
I was like, oh, do you have
anything that can help me?

1374
01:10:15,960 --> 01:10:17,760
And I was like, well, I have a
song of healing and you seem

1375
01:10:17,760 --> 01:10:19,440
hurt.
That doesn't work.

1376
01:10:19,560 --> 01:10:21,680
And it's like, OK, now I need to
get something else.

1377
01:10:22,160 --> 01:10:24,520
And so I go back to the potion
shop and there's just a note

1378
01:10:24,520 --> 01:10:26,840
saying like, Nope, we're off in
the off in the woods.

1379
01:10:27,360 --> 01:10:30,880
You the the the timing was wrong
on that mic you had to go on day

1380
01:10:30,880 --> 01:10:32,920
one.
Yeah, that's what I found out

1381
01:10:32,960 --> 01:10:35,920
eventually.
I'm so sorry that's happening.

1382
01:10:35,960 --> 01:10:37,880
This game is figuring out
people's schedules.

1383
01:10:38,120 --> 01:10:40,560
And I think I didn't even
realize you that it because I've

1384
01:10:40,560 --> 01:10:42,720
always gone on day one.
I didn't even realize I've.

1385
01:10:42,720 --> 01:10:44,560
Done.
Oh, I've absolutely done that.

1386
01:10:44,560 --> 01:10:46,160
Been like oh shit I lost track
of time.

1387
01:10:46,360 --> 01:10:49,320
And it hit this thing where it's
like I I feel like I'm looking

1388
01:10:49,320 --> 01:10:53,200
at what I have to work with and
doing what it's indicating to me

1389
01:10:53,200 --> 01:10:57,360
to do and it's not working.
The the what gets me though is

1390
01:10:57,400 --> 01:11:00,640
is not the puzzle solution, it's
actually giving her the potion

1391
01:11:01,080 --> 01:11:05,000
because Ocarina trains you to
hold the button right and so you

1392
01:11:05,080 --> 01:11:07,720
you get to her and then you
drink the potion in front of her

1393
01:11:07,720 --> 01:11:11,680
and you go fuck.
Which is, which is legitimately

1394
01:11:11,680 --> 01:11:14,400
a funny thing and has become a
meme at this point that you

1395
01:11:14,400 --> 01:11:15,280
drink it in front of.
Her.

1396
01:11:15,280 --> 01:11:17,880
Everybody does it, yeah.
I did it as a kid, yeah.

1397
01:11:18,080 --> 01:11:23,360
I I did it last week, yeah, in
that same category of using a

1398
01:11:23,360 --> 01:11:24,480
thing.
And this is, was also

1399
01:11:24,480 --> 01:11:28,480
frustrating is like, I won that
race despite my frustration that

1400
01:11:29,000 --> 01:11:31,440
at the end of the race, it
should really tell you what your

1401
01:11:31,440 --> 01:11:34,880
place was and or your time.
Because if you're focused on

1402
01:11:34,880 --> 01:11:38,480
racing and as soon as it's done,
any information about how you

1403
01:11:38,480 --> 01:11:40,960
did goes away.
So it's not like, oh, I'm

1404
01:11:40,960 --> 01:11:43,320
getting faster.
So this is working.

1405
01:11:43,320 --> 01:11:47,200
It's just like, I don't know
what happened, but I get this

1406
01:11:47,200 --> 01:11:50,640
gold dust and I had already
melted out a forge and like, Oh

1407
01:11:50,640 --> 01:11:53,160
yeah, if you bring some gold
dust, we can make your sword.

1408
01:11:53,320 --> 01:11:55,160
Like we can upgrade your sword
permanently.

1409
01:11:55,440 --> 01:11:57,920
So I'm like, I got a sword.
I have gold dust.

1410
01:11:58,120 --> 01:12:01,280
This ought to work great.
I have no idea what I'm supposed

1411
01:12:01,280 --> 01:12:02,760
to do with that because I went
back to them.

1412
01:12:02,880 --> 01:12:06,880
You have to upgrade the sword
one time on day one, come back

1413
01:12:06,880 --> 01:12:10,200
on day 2 with the gold dust and
they'll upgrade it permanently.

1414
01:12:10,320 --> 01:12:12,760
You have to come back day three
to get the permanent upgrade.

1415
01:12:13,240 --> 01:12:15,200
You have to.
You have to have planned that

1416
01:12:15,200 --> 01:12:18,120
out and brought them the sword
day one.

1417
01:12:18,200 --> 01:12:20,840
Then go Gore on race then give
them the gold.

1418
01:12:20,840 --> 01:12:24,520
Dust, if they'd indicated, like,
we can upgrade that sword with

1419
01:12:24,520 --> 01:12:28,280
gold dust instead.
It just, it never gave me an

1420
01:12:28,280 --> 01:12:31,720
indication of what was wrong.
It made it seem like I couldn't

1421
01:12:31,720 --> 01:12:34,400
figure out the correct way to
give them the gold dust.

1422
01:12:35,000 --> 01:12:39,160
And then I spent ₹100 on an
upgrade I didn't want, thinking

1423
01:12:39,160 --> 01:12:41,800
that, well, maybe if I say yes,
they will take that and the gold

1424
01:12:41,800 --> 01:12:45,880
dust at the same time, no.
That was also the one point

1425
01:12:45,880 --> 01:12:48,920
where like the time loop
mechanic annoyed me is that I

1426
01:12:48,920 --> 01:12:52,800
defeated Goat, the boss of that
area.

1427
01:12:52,800 --> 01:12:57,120
So I turned off the Blizzard and
now the shop is open, but I

1428
01:12:57,120 --> 01:13:02,040
didn't have enough time to do
the sword upgrades and so I had

1429
01:13:02,040 --> 01:13:03,880
to reset time using the Song of
Time.

1430
01:13:03,880 --> 01:13:05,520
But now I have to fight the boss
again.

1431
01:13:05,520 --> 01:13:10,080
Now mercifully, they did think
to put a warp from the beginning

1432
01:13:10,080 --> 01:13:11,960
of the dungeon to the boss
fight.

1433
01:13:11,960 --> 01:13:14,240
So if that happens, you're at
least not doing the whole

1434
01:13:14,240 --> 01:13:17,120
dungeon again.
But I was just like, I just beat

1435
01:13:17,120 --> 01:13:20,560
this boss and now I'm doing it
again due to something that

1436
01:13:20,560 --> 01:13:22,600
doesn't feel like it was in my
control.

1437
01:13:23,080 --> 01:13:24,440
I didn't.
I felt like I was punished for

1438
01:13:24,440 --> 01:13:26,360
something that I didn't do
wrong.

1439
01:13:26,440 --> 01:13:28,760
Does that make sense?
What or why were you having to

1440
01:13:28,760 --> 01:13:31,720
fight the boss again?
Because when I reset time, the

1441
01:13:31,720 --> 01:13:34,720
Blizzard came back.
You can't do Goron races if it's

1442
01:13:34,720 --> 01:13:36,360
not spring.
Right.

1443
01:13:36,800 --> 01:13:39,520
So it has to and the only way to
get Spring is to defeat Goat.

1444
01:13:40,040 --> 01:13:42,800
So you kill the giant bull that
turns off the Blizzard, which

1445
01:13:42,800 --> 01:13:45,920
then left the shop open.
And of course, if you go back in

1446
01:13:45,920 --> 01:13:48,120
time with gold dust in a bottle,
it just poops.

1447
01:13:48,680 --> 01:13:50,800
Yeah.
Yeah, so that don't work.

1448
01:13:51,240 --> 01:13:53,760
But that should though cuz like
every other item doesn't.

1449
01:13:53,760 --> 01:13:55,280
Well, I guess you're no.
No fairies.

1450
01:13:55,400 --> 01:13:57,560
Yeah, fairies poof out of
bottles.

1451
01:13:57,600 --> 01:14:00,400
Yeah, yeah, there's very limited
things that don't poof.

1452
01:14:00,400 --> 01:14:03,680
It's like the permanent items.
Yeah, your pictures are gone

1453
01:14:03,680 --> 01:14:06,560
which really pissed me off.
I didn't realize the pictures

1454
01:14:06,560 --> 01:14:07,800
deleted.
Yeah.

1455
01:14:08,240 --> 01:14:12,080
So there's just so much of that,
of the, you know, which things

1456
01:14:12,160 --> 01:14:15,360
do or don't stick around.
That's a learning curve.

1457
01:14:15,720 --> 01:14:20,480
Was very frustrating and the the
idea that OK so unique items

1458
01:14:20,480 --> 01:14:25,600
don't stick around but my
certification to carry a powder

1459
01:14:25,600 --> 01:14:28,200
keg does.
Small keys.

1460
01:14:28,200 --> 01:14:30,160
The first time you see a small
keys fly out, you're like.

1461
01:14:32,280 --> 01:14:37,080
And it made it so hard when I
had to redo dungeons because the

1462
01:14:37,080 --> 01:14:42,280
dungeons usually are very well
designed with the sense of you

1463
01:14:42,280 --> 01:14:46,040
kind of go through like, OK,
I've gone through these rooms

1464
01:14:46,040 --> 01:14:47,680
and done what I can do in these
rooms.

1465
01:14:48,080 --> 01:14:50,200
And I have to figure out where
is there a thing I could do in a

1466
01:14:50,200 --> 01:14:54,160
room that I haven't done yet?
And when it got to this game, I

1467
01:14:54,160 --> 01:14:57,200
had to go back in and be like,
OK, which things did I do?

1468
01:14:57,400 --> 01:15:01,040
Do I still need to redo?
And which things do I not?

1469
01:15:01,640 --> 01:15:03,600
Yeah.
That's harder to keep track of.

1470
01:15:03,880 --> 01:15:05,280
Yeah.
And I think I found like I found

1471
01:15:05,280 --> 01:15:09,000
I had to go like, OK, don't use
do anything with fire arrows

1472
01:15:09,040 --> 01:15:14,040
until I would go into that room
for the fire arrows and just

1473
01:15:14,040 --> 01:15:16,280
fully redo everything because it
did.

1474
01:15:16,280 --> 01:15:19,800
Just there wasn't that sense of
it almost was.

1475
01:15:19,920 --> 01:15:23,680
It was harder that it went back
in and still remembered parts of

1476
01:15:23,680 --> 01:15:25,440
what I had done than if it
didn't remember anything.

1477
01:15:25,960 --> 01:15:27,640
I get that.
It's like seed bleed in a

1478
01:15:27,640 --> 01:15:31,120
randomizer where you forget did
I do that question and where was

1479
01:15:31,120 --> 01:15:33,880
that the last time I played a
randomizer We call it seed

1480
01:15:33,880 --> 01:15:36,640
bleed.
This has the little bit of that

1481
01:15:36,640 --> 01:15:40,440
effect, but it's the rogue light
thing where you know you have to

1482
01:15:40,440 --> 01:15:43,120
do it again and again and again,
which is so popular these days.

1483
01:15:43,200 --> 01:15:45,520
Yeah, it's around, but at least
with some variation.

1484
01:15:45,520 --> 01:15:48,840
I did at one point write worst
rogue light like Darren.

1485
01:15:48,920 --> 01:15:51,120
And.
Then cross that out because I

1486
01:15:51,120 --> 01:15:52,800
was like, I don't because it's
like, well, it's not.

1487
01:15:52,800 --> 01:15:56,200
It's that there's no randomness.
Like I would almost welcome the

1488
01:15:56,200 --> 01:15:59,640
randomness because at least then
it would be like, OK, I'm

1489
01:15:59,640 --> 01:16:00,440
failing.
I'm failing.

1490
01:16:01,000 --> 01:16:02,720
I'm expectedly lucky on this
round.

1491
01:16:03,160 --> 01:16:05,760
So, Derek, is there anything you
don't like about the game?

1492
01:16:06,600 --> 01:16:10,160
I also worth I was to say a lot
of the things you guys don't

1493
01:16:10,160 --> 01:16:13,360
like are things that work for
me, like the like, you know, all

1494
01:16:13,360 --> 01:16:15,920
that rogue light stuff, the
difficulty, the the three day

1495
01:16:15,920 --> 01:16:19,040
cycle and having to manage so
much stuff is all things that I

1496
01:16:19,120 --> 01:16:23,480
like a lot because it just makes
me think about the game so much

1497
01:16:23,480 --> 01:16:24,800
more.
Really have to like work

1498
01:16:24,800 --> 01:16:28,240
everything out.
I will say though, and you know

1499
01:16:28,240 --> 01:16:31,400
this Jamo, there is one boss
battle in this that I strongly

1500
01:16:31,400 --> 01:16:34,160
dislike.
Is it guy or it's gotta be guy

1501
01:16:34,240 --> 01:16:36,040
org?
Yes, guy org.

1502
01:16:36,040 --> 01:16:39,440
Guy org sucks.
My God, I had three fairies.

1503
01:16:39,440 --> 01:16:43,240
That's how I beat him.
It's really just like a really

1504
01:16:43,720 --> 01:16:48,960
brutal battle and it's not fun
either.

1505
01:16:48,960 --> 01:16:51,600
It's like what you talking
about, you know GOAT and how fun

1506
01:16:51,600 --> 01:16:55,120
that is because you're using the
Goran mechanic to such a great

1507
01:16:55,120 --> 01:16:59,000
effect, whereas you're not like
you stabbed the the fact that

1508
01:16:59,000 --> 01:17:01,320
you had to turn into Azure and
go back on the thing feels like

1509
01:17:01,320 --> 01:17:03,600
almost a punishment instead of a
fun thing.

1510
01:17:03,880 --> 01:17:06,680
That's the one part of the game
that I don't love and another

1511
01:17:06,680 --> 01:17:10,080
joy con I have is actually not
of this game, but it's of the 3D

1512
01:17:10,080 --> 01:17:12,800
remake, which I think is really
bad.

1513
01:17:13,160 --> 01:17:16,160
I have a bit I have because you
talked about the links awakening

1514
01:17:16,160 --> 01:17:18,440
3D remake and how you know there
was.

1515
01:17:18,560 --> 01:17:20,760
I still prefer the old one, but
there's it's a lot to love in

1516
01:17:20,760 --> 01:17:23,160
that new one.
This just kind of takes it and

1517
01:17:23,160 --> 01:17:27,160
makes changes things just to
change them all of the time to

1518
01:17:27,200 --> 01:17:31,000
and makes them actively worse.
All of the bosses are like weird

1519
01:17:31,000 --> 01:17:33,360
and like have like big majora
eyeballs that come out of the

1520
01:17:33,360 --> 01:17:35,120
back of their head.
Now they're just like here's the

1521
01:17:35,120 --> 01:17:38,040
weak point and it's a lot
easier.

1522
01:17:38,160 --> 01:17:41,080
So it takes out that kind of
like difficulty curve that I was

1523
01:17:41,080 --> 01:17:44,400
talking about and also stuff
like the Zorro swimming, which

1524
01:17:44,400 --> 01:17:47,320
we talked about how good it is.
It's so nerfed that the deco

1525
01:17:47,320 --> 01:17:49,640
hopping is like weird and it
doesn't work anymore.

1526
01:17:49,640 --> 01:17:51,800
Like it's and things aren't
spaced out right anymore because

1527
01:17:51,800 --> 01:17:53,400
they made the like little
running thing.

1528
01:17:53,640 --> 01:17:58,160
So the three day remake, I will
say for the 3DS, I think 2015 it

1529
01:17:58,160 --> 01:18:02,200
came out is pretty bad.
But other than that, I'd say

1530
01:18:02,280 --> 01:18:05,920
Jorg is in the actual N64 game
is the only thing that I

1531
01:18:05,920 --> 01:18:09,240
actively dislike about it.
Since you brought up the bosses

1532
01:18:09,400 --> 01:18:13,400
and like how are you supposed to
beat the first boss?

1533
01:18:13,800 --> 01:18:16,720
And that, that's what I love
about that first boss, is you

1534
01:18:16,720 --> 01:18:20,600
just beat him any way you can.
Yeah, you wail on him until he

1535
01:18:20,640 --> 01:18:22,520
shuts up.
Yeah, you can throw bombs, you

1536
01:18:22,520 --> 01:18:24,720
can do Deku stuff, you can just
tack and slash.

1537
01:18:25,200 --> 01:18:28,440
He he sets you up to think like
you're going to have a cycle or

1538
01:18:28,440 --> 01:18:30,680
a sequence or a way to do it,
and it's like, that's not true

1539
01:18:30,680 --> 01:18:31,200
at all.
Right.

1540
01:18:31,200 --> 01:18:32,760
You just got to fight this guy,
you know?

1541
01:18:33,000 --> 01:18:35,280
OK.
But I like that though because

1542
01:18:35,280 --> 01:18:39,600
like I felt like I'm expecting
this pattern thing and it's

1543
01:18:39,600 --> 01:18:41,520
like.
Never materializes.

1544
01:18:41,600 --> 01:18:44,360
For him, it just feels like a
full on slugfest.

1545
01:18:44,360 --> 01:18:47,720
And then you know, the the giant
twin mold fight where you put on

1546
01:18:47,720 --> 01:18:50,600
the giant mask and become Kaiju
link for that one boss fight.

1547
01:18:51,120 --> 01:18:53,200
It's gimmicky, but it's it's
it's cool.

1548
01:18:53,200 --> 01:18:56,120
It's just.
Twin molds after guy org.

1549
01:18:56,120 --> 01:18:58,960
Everything's better.
Yeah, almighty.

1550
01:18:59,120 --> 01:19:01,800
Is there any way to do that
fight with taking no damage?

1551
01:19:02,280 --> 01:19:05,920
Like surely somebody's figured
it out, but Oh my God, I just, I

1552
01:19:05,920 --> 01:19:07,600
tank it.
That's the only way I can do it.

1553
01:19:07,920 --> 01:19:11,200
Tank it with the the electric
attack underwater.

1554
01:19:11,520 --> 01:19:14,680
Yeah, that that's it.
You have to hit the fish and

1555
01:19:14,680 --> 01:19:17,400
then jump down and attack it
while it's stunned underwater.

1556
01:19:17,400 --> 01:19:19,920
But like, there is some moments
of tension where you're on the

1557
01:19:19,920 --> 01:19:22,560
platform and it's ramming the
sides and it's trying to knock

1558
01:19:22,560 --> 01:19:24,520
you into the water kind of Jaws
style.

1559
01:19:24,840 --> 01:19:28,360
And you climb up so slow, and
half the time he snatches you

1560
01:19:28,360 --> 01:19:30,000
right as you're climbing up and
you're like, no.

1561
01:19:30,440 --> 01:19:34,520
And he does so much damage.
Oh, he chews you up like you're

1562
01:19:34,920 --> 01:19:36,480
candy.
God Almighty.

1563
01:19:36,720 --> 01:19:39,680
So I have a joy con and I think
it's gonna make Derek vomit

1564
01:19:39,680 --> 01:19:44,120
blood probably.
But I I just, I do feel like the

1565
01:19:44,120 --> 01:19:47,320
ending of the game.
I was a little underwhelmed

1566
01:19:47,640 --> 01:19:51,000
because like, spoiler alert, but
you fight Majora's Mask.

1567
01:19:51,320 --> 01:19:53,840
It's like a flying version of
the mask, right?

1568
01:19:54,480 --> 01:19:57,960
And I was certain that there was
going to be an element of time

1569
01:19:58,120 --> 01:20:00,400
in this final battle.
I thought for sure they're going

1570
01:20:00,440 --> 01:20:02,640
to be like, oh, the song of time
doesn't work anymore.

1571
01:20:03,040 --> 01:20:05,240
You've got 6 minutes to take
this thing down.

1572
01:20:05,720 --> 01:20:09,080
But you know, the game removes
time limits during the boss

1573
01:20:09,080 --> 01:20:11,120
fight.
And I was like, I kind of had

1574
01:20:11,120 --> 01:20:13,920
wished I'm just reminded an
ocarina of time when Navi's

1575
01:20:13,920 --> 01:20:17,040
like, I can't help you, sorry,
and you're denied Z targeting

1576
01:20:17,360 --> 01:20:19,840
and you're like, oh crap, this
thing I've been relying on is

1577
01:20:19,840 --> 01:20:22,480
gone.
I missed that moment in the

1578
01:20:22,480 --> 01:20:25,080
Majora fight.
I'm gonna bet you didn't,

1579
01:20:25,080 --> 01:20:27,000
because I'm gonna bet you
rewinded that sucker.

1580
01:20:29,920 --> 01:20:32,240
If you're just straight up
fighting this guy like you're

1581
01:20:32,240 --> 01:20:35,880
supposed to, OK, it's a fight.
OK, but is it?

1582
01:20:35,880 --> 01:20:38,280
It's not as interesting as the
Gannon fight.

1583
01:20:39,440 --> 01:20:42,960
I would say it it it messes with
you because it's 3 distinct

1584
01:20:42,960 --> 01:20:45,520
phases, the easiest of which by
far is the middle.

1585
01:20:46,080 --> 01:20:47,600
Yeah, Ray, Just Dance is kind of
creepy.

1586
01:20:47,880 --> 01:20:51,000
So weird.
I do like that it is obvious

1587
01:20:51,000 --> 01:20:54,000
that the mask was the problem
and not Skull Kid.

1588
01:20:54,040 --> 01:20:58,160
Whereas all of your masks are,
you have full control over them,

1589
01:20:58,200 --> 01:21:00,560
right?
It's implied that the mask is

1590
01:21:00,560 --> 01:21:02,840
controlling Skull Kid here and
that's the evil.

1591
01:21:03,000 --> 01:21:06,080
So it's like in that way it's
narratively satisfying.

1592
01:21:06,440 --> 01:21:08,440
That's all I'm going to give it
though, because it's weird as

1593
01:21:08,440 --> 01:21:11,640
hell, yeah, and and not fun
unless you're Fierce Deity.

1594
01:21:11,680 --> 01:21:14,640
Yeah, the vibes it, I think it's
a relatively tough fight and I

1595
01:21:14,640 --> 01:21:17,760
think the vibes, like we said,
are are pretty on point.

1596
01:21:17,760 --> 01:21:23,560
Like it starts off like very
ominous and then it gets weird

1597
01:21:24,400 --> 01:21:28,320
and then it gets like kind of
freak, like just like, oh shit,

1598
01:21:28,320 --> 01:21:31,000
like it's really on.
So I like the three stages, all

1599
01:21:31,000 --> 01:21:34,240
kind of mirror like your
experience playing Mature's

1600
01:21:34,240 --> 01:21:36,160
Mass.
OK, I could see that.

1601
01:21:36,160 --> 01:21:38,800
I could see it.
And then also, Full disclosure,

1602
01:21:38,800 --> 01:21:41,520
you know, the end of the game
was spoiled by the Smash

1603
01:21:41,520 --> 01:21:44,720
Brothers stage.
I was, I was.

1604
01:21:44,760 --> 01:21:47,400
When I got to Great Bay, I was
like, oh, I know that built.

1605
01:21:47,400 --> 01:21:49,960
This is a I'm gonna look up
pictures of that Smash Brothers

1606
01:21:49,960 --> 01:21:50,800
stage.
Oh my God.

1607
01:21:50,800 --> 01:21:52,760
There's the end of the game
right there in the background.

1608
01:21:53,160 --> 01:21:54,760
I.
Felt such a soft spot for the

1609
01:21:54,760 --> 01:21:57,440
oath of order though and seeing
that like I hear the oath of

1610
01:21:57,480 --> 01:22:01,760
order in my head, I can't not.
And Jamie, I will say, as

1611
01:22:01,760 --> 01:22:05,360
someone who beat Majora's Mask
and then four years later played

1612
01:22:05,360 --> 01:22:10,440
Super Smash, to see that happen
in the background, I lost my

1613
01:22:10,440 --> 01:22:12,200
fucking mind.
That was the coolest thing I've

1614
01:22:12,240 --> 01:22:15,760
ever seen.
Yeah, and also, let's just admit

1615
01:22:15,760 --> 01:22:19,440
that the moon, the inside of the
moon, being an empty field with

1616
01:22:19,440 --> 01:22:22,000
one tree.
That's anime AF right?

1617
01:22:22,120 --> 01:22:25,520
Yes, it is.
The Isakai vibes were strong,

1618
01:22:25,560 --> 01:22:26,960
right?
I mean, this is an Isakai,

1619
01:22:27,000 --> 01:22:28,240
right?
I think we can all agree.

1620
01:22:28,520 --> 01:22:30,560
So they really drove that home
here.

1621
01:22:31,000 --> 01:22:33,000
And it is.
Here's another piece of trivia

1622
01:22:33,000 --> 01:22:37,120
for you guys.
It is very directly inspired by

1623
01:22:37,120 --> 01:22:42,600
Battleship Yamato, a anime from
the 70s where they go off to

1624
01:22:42,600 --> 01:22:45,880
like a planet that is going to
like that's going to crash into

1625
01:22:45,880 --> 01:22:46,680
the Earth or something like
that.

1626
01:22:46,680 --> 01:22:50,040
It's and they like see a
landscape that looks quite a lot

1627
01:22:50,040 --> 01:22:52,160
like there's this intense thing
and they get to the planet and

1628
01:22:52,160 --> 01:22:55,200
it looks a lot like this.
They drew on that heavily.

1629
01:22:55,720 --> 01:22:58,040
Here I was going to accuse
accuse them of being derivative

1630
01:22:58,200 --> 01:22:59,680
of the Star Wars Expanded
Universe.

1631
01:22:59,680 --> 01:23:01,680
I knew you were going to talk
about the moon crashing in a

1632
01:23:01,680 --> 01:23:03,000
Chewbacca.
I just knew it.

1633
01:23:04,680 --> 01:23:06,320
Which was a year before this
game.

1634
01:23:07,400 --> 01:23:09,200
I mean, that's a dope way to
die.

1635
01:23:09,280 --> 01:23:11,680
So the only.
Thing that could kill Chewbacca

1636
01:23:11,680 --> 01:23:14,040
is a whole ass moon.
You know, he goes out yelling at

1637
01:23:14,040 --> 01:23:15,880
the moon as it's coming in.
That's.

1638
01:23:15,880 --> 01:23:17,480
Hell yeah.
Metal was hell.

1639
01:23:17,880 --> 01:23:19,720
It was mostly rock.
Yeah.

1640
01:23:19,760 --> 01:23:22,160
All right.
OK, here's something you can't

1641
01:23:22,160 --> 01:23:25,680
argue with.
OK the sub quest where you sell

1642
01:23:25,680 --> 01:23:28,000
pictures of the girl to the
voyeur.

1643
01:23:28,520 --> 01:23:31,480
And you sell a pirate picture to
another guy too.

1644
01:23:31,920 --> 01:23:33,600
A lot of great creeps in this
game.

1645
01:23:34,480 --> 01:23:38,440
Lot of flat great dudes. 100%
there is.

1646
01:23:39,040 --> 01:23:42,320
Like the the even the bomb shop
salesman creeps me out.

1647
01:23:42,320 --> 01:23:48,560
Man, the great fairies are just
as suggestive and uncomfortable

1648
01:23:48,800 --> 01:23:51,640
as an ocarina.
What happens with the fairies if

1649
01:23:51,640 --> 01:23:53,880
you actually get all the smaller
fairies from something?

1650
01:23:54,080 --> 01:23:57,400
They boost your powers where you
get more magic.

1651
01:23:58,440 --> 01:24:00,560
You get you get like the spin
attack for the first one.

1652
01:24:00,560 --> 01:24:02,640
You get double magic for the
second one.

1653
01:24:03,120 --> 01:24:06,720
The third one is you get your
hearts are you have like twice

1654
01:24:06,720 --> 01:24:08,920
as much health like you would
get hit for half as much.

1655
01:24:09,040 --> 01:24:10,720
Double defense is what we call
it.

1656
01:24:10,880 --> 01:24:12,560
Double, yeah.
And then the third one is you

1657
01:24:12,560 --> 01:24:16,000
get the Great Fairy Sword.
That's what I didn't learn until

1658
01:24:16,000 --> 01:24:18,640
the final fight, that if you if
you drink milk, you have

1659
01:24:18,640 --> 01:24:20,680
unlimited magic for a day.
I was like, Dang it, that would

1660
01:24:20,680 --> 01:24:22,080
have been.
Helpful this whole game,

1661
01:24:22,120 --> 01:24:23,640
Chateau.
Romani.

1662
01:24:24,000 --> 01:24:26,400
Yes.
You got to get the the cow mask

1663
01:24:26,440 --> 01:24:28,680
first.
Like I, I wish that the like

1664
01:24:28,800 --> 01:24:32,960
that's what the fairies had felt
slightly more obtainable because

1665
01:24:32,960 --> 01:24:35,240
it was just so many it's.
Hard 15?

1666
01:24:35,240 --> 01:24:36,600
That's tough.
It's tough, It's tough.

1667
01:24:36,720 --> 01:24:39,280
An all in one cycle, right?
You don't keep it.

1668
01:24:39,560 --> 01:24:42,400
I never did that before doing it
for this this, you know, most

1669
01:24:42,400 --> 01:24:43,840
recent playthrough.
Yeah.

1670
01:24:43,840 --> 01:24:48,200
And I think the last bit is just
dialogue that I can't get out of

1671
01:24:48,720 --> 01:24:52,200
was so frustrating in situations
where it's like, because so much

1672
01:24:52,200 --> 01:24:54,000
of of this is like, go talk to
people.

1673
01:24:54,640 --> 01:24:57,040
I want the ability to bail out
of those conversations and not

1674
01:24:57,040 --> 01:25:00,000
be like, well, maybe if I talk
to these the jugglers with this

1675
01:25:00,000 --> 01:25:01,440
map.
Nope, It's the same bad joke.

1676
01:25:01,440 --> 01:25:02,960
I don't want the same bad joke.
I've heard this.

1677
01:25:03,600 --> 01:25:05,920
I've heard this so many times.
Well you can just hold B and it

1678
01:25:06,680 --> 01:25:08,600
it goes through it quick.
First time dialogue.

1679
01:25:08,600 --> 01:25:10,600
A lot of dialogue will go faster
if you hold down fee.

1680
01:25:10,680 --> 01:25:13,200
Not all of it, which I
unfortunately always do when I'm

1681
01:25:13,200 --> 01:25:15,840
trying to go to the bank and
then I accidentally deposit zero

1682
01:25:15,840 --> 01:25:18,440
and I have to do it again.
That one should just let you

1683
01:25:18,440 --> 01:25:22,120
deposit like if you put in like
900 and you have less, it

1684
01:25:22,120 --> 01:25:23,280
shouldn't be like you're trying
to scam me.

1685
01:25:23,280 --> 01:25:26,240
It should just be like you want
to just deposit everything you

1686
01:25:26,240 --> 01:25:29,480
have, not have to enter a three
digit number.

1687
01:25:30,120 --> 01:25:32,520
But he was so happy when you
deposited money.

1688
01:25:32,520 --> 01:25:35,520
I really love doing.
That I can't stand how many

1689
01:25:35,520 --> 01:25:38,200
lines of pointless dialogue
there is, though there should be

1690
01:25:38,200 --> 01:25:40,520
two at most.
Is there?

1691
01:25:41,120 --> 01:25:46,600
He's like, oh, let me check so.
Is there a theory for why the

1692
01:25:47,040 --> 01:25:51,600
Zelda banker remembers you?
I think that's so interesting.

1693
01:25:51,600 --> 01:25:53,640
The stamp.
Oh, he.

1694
01:25:53,640 --> 01:25:55,800
Stamps your head the very first
interaction he gives you.

1695
01:25:55,880 --> 01:25:57,960
See, that's what he's doing.
He's leaning over to check your

1696
01:25:57,960 --> 01:26:00,520
stamp.
He's like, put some invisible

1697
01:26:00,520 --> 01:26:02,520
ink on you.
Yeah, like he can see.

1698
01:26:02,600 --> 01:26:06,880
In the time thing, I'm also
gonna say that like when you do

1699
01:26:07,000 --> 01:26:08,400
the mask there, I guess.
Like what?

1700
01:26:08,400 --> 01:26:13,280
Like the transformation masks?
Those should do the creepy

1701
01:26:13,280 --> 01:26:16,280
torture animation the first
time.

1702
01:26:16,600 --> 01:26:18,600
You can skip it.
You can skip it.

1703
01:26:18,720 --> 01:26:21,840
I did show him, yeah.
I had to get told and it's

1704
01:26:22,280 --> 01:26:25,760
otherwise obnoxious and it's
like you could just do this once

1705
01:26:25,760 --> 01:26:28,640
and then never make me watch
that again, or do it once to

1706
01:26:28,880 --> 01:26:32,360
change to wants to change back
and not have to do it again and

1707
01:26:32,360 --> 01:26:34,600
not make it be a thing I have
to.

1708
01:26:34,960 --> 01:26:37,960
I can't imagine anyone who knows
that they can skip that and not

1709
01:26:37,960 --> 01:26:40,600
skipping it every time, which
tells me it's no longer

1710
01:26:40,600 --> 01:26:42,320
necessary after like the first
time.

1711
01:26:43,000 --> 01:26:43,320
Fair.
Good.

1712
01:26:43,800 --> 01:26:45,560
That's a good joy con.
I agree.

1713
01:26:46,120 --> 01:26:48,080
Yeah, but I skip it.
I skip it every time, you know,

1714
01:26:48,080 --> 01:26:50,280
I just hit a, you know, so.
It's yeah, I'm an impatient

1715
01:26:50,280 --> 01:26:52,200
gamer and I was stamming the
button anyway, which is why I

1716
01:26:52,200 --> 01:26:54,280
always say but.
I I do like that body horror

1717
01:26:54,280 --> 01:26:55,520
element of it.
You know, it's almost like

1718
01:26:55,560 --> 01:26:57,800
Anamorphs when they would
transform into the like the

1719
01:26:58,240 --> 01:27:01,720
animals and they would just be
this creepy David or David

1720
01:27:01,720 --> 01:27:04,640
Cronenberg thing, you know?
Yeah, the the game makes it very

1721
01:27:04,640 --> 01:27:07,600
clear these are dead people.
You know the first mask.

1722
01:27:08,040 --> 01:27:11,240
You didn't like it enough to
watch it every time, That's my

1723
01:27:11,240 --> 01:27:12,680
point.
Yeah, no, I didn't.

1724
01:27:12,680 --> 01:27:14,400
I just fully skipped it.
And that's why I'm glad you can

1725
01:27:14,440 --> 01:27:16,600
skip it.
Yeah, what I'm saying is I

1726
01:27:16,600 --> 01:27:20,600
thought it was really neat the
first time, but it shouldn't be

1727
01:27:20,600 --> 01:27:21,520
a.
You have to find out.

1728
01:27:21,520 --> 01:27:22,560
You can skip it.
It should just be.

1729
01:27:22,560 --> 01:27:24,200
Don't do it again.
Yeah, but it's not like it's

1730
01:27:24,360 --> 01:27:25,680
tough.
You just hit a, you know, It's

1731
01:27:25,680 --> 01:27:28,640
not some crazy, you know?
You can even just hit the the

1732
01:27:28,640 --> 01:27:32,240
same button you put the mask on.
Yeah, which is what I do because

1733
01:27:32,240 --> 01:27:35,200
I'm impatient.
It is crazy, though, that like

1734
01:27:35,200 --> 01:27:38,440
the game makes it so clear.
These are dead people spirit

1735
01:27:38,440 --> 01:27:41,000
imbued in a mask.
The first one, it doesn't.

1736
01:27:41,000 --> 01:27:43,320
It's not obvious, but there's.
Fun.

1737
01:27:43,480 --> 01:27:46,920
It's not directly told, but no.
But if you if you do.

1738
01:27:47,000 --> 01:27:49,400
That very clear.
Yeah, you do.

1739
01:27:49,400 --> 01:27:50,880
No.
I don't think it's clear at all

1740
01:27:50,880 --> 01:27:53,080
until you do the Butler race and
he's like, you look kind of like

1741
01:27:53,080 --> 01:27:54,760
my son.
And then you put together, yeah,

1742
01:27:54,760 --> 01:27:57,440
there was that weird tree that
got pointed out.

1743
01:27:57,640 --> 01:28:00,440
And then the second mask is a
ghost, right?

1744
01:28:00,440 --> 01:28:02,760
And he, you watch the ghost
become a mask, you watch the

1745
01:28:02,760 --> 01:28:04,520
Laura die, and then you get a
mask.

1746
01:28:04,840 --> 01:28:08,120
And then you have to think
about, oh shit, I was a dead

1747
01:28:08,120 --> 01:28:10,720
Deku that whole time.
That's fucked up.

1748
01:28:10,840 --> 01:28:12,960
Yeah, he's like, you look like
my son and then you see, and

1749
01:28:13,360 --> 01:28:16,040
then in the credits too.
Yeah, if you do the Butler

1750
01:28:16,040 --> 01:28:19,680
thing, you see him crying by
that thing.

1751
01:28:19,680 --> 01:28:20,800
So that's.
Like get him dirty.

1752
01:28:21,120 --> 01:28:24,520
He gets no happy ending because
he that happened prior to the

1753
01:28:24,520 --> 01:28:28,120
first song of time.
Yeah, it's so that moment is so

1754
01:28:28,120 --> 01:28:29,280
sad.
And it's one of those things in

1755
01:28:29,280 --> 01:28:31,720
the credits too, though, like if
you don't go off and do his

1756
01:28:31,720 --> 01:28:34,480
little side quest, you get
robbed of that really powerful

1757
01:28:34,480 --> 01:28:36,240
moment.
I never clocked that.

1758
01:28:36,240 --> 01:28:38,240
Oh, this is also a dead mask
thing.

1759
01:28:39,440 --> 01:28:41,960
Yeah, but I mean, the the
further you get in the game, the

1760
01:28:41,960 --> 01:28:44,360
more obvious it is because it's
like, oh, you're this Goron

1761
01:28:44,360 --> 01:28:46,080
warrior that everyone was sure
was dead.

1762
01:28:46,080 --> 01:28:49,000
Hey, you're back.
And then they'll re re mention

1763
01:28:49,000 --> 01:28:50,880
the Zora body.
That was really brutal.

1764
01:28:50,880 --> 01:28:54,600
You bury him, You you witness
his last words, which is a

1765
01:28:54,640 --> 01:28:57,640
weird, weird, totally weird
song.

1766
01:28:58,000 --> 01:29:00,240
By.
The way he rocks too hard, he

1767
01:29:00,240 --> 01:29:03,680
rocks himself to death on the
beach and then you see a

1768
01:29:03,680 --> 01:29:05,280
skeleton, but it can still talk
to you.

1769
01:29:05,640 --> 01:29:08,920
That I've seen in a movie.
Weird.

1770
01:29:09,200 --> 01:29:11,920
Turned out to be the band Wasp.
All right guys, well before we

1771
01:29:11,920 --> 01:29:14,720
get to our rating, let's do
another segment of Rankin Retro

1772
01:29:14,720 --> 01:29:17,960
where we are ranking every game
in the Zelda series covered thus

1773
01:29:17,960 --> 01:29:21,040
far in the old switcheroo.
So far, the rankings are as

1774
01:29:21,040 --> 01:29:23,240
follows.
We've got Ocarina on top,

1775
01:29:23,240 --> 01:29:26,120
followed by Lynx Awakening, A
Link to the Past, Legend of

1776
01:29:26,120 --> 01:29:30,920
Zelda 4 Swords, Legend of Zelda
on NES, and My Boy Zelda 2.

1777
01:29:31,680 --> 01:29:35,760
Bring it up the rear so
panelists raise your hand and

1778
01:29:35,760 --> 01:29:37,440
keep it raised.
If you think that Majora's Mask

1779
01:29:37,440 --> 01:29:40,800
is better than Zelda 2, all
right, That's everybody.

1780
01:29:41,520 --> 01:29:43,440
Everyone in the.
Entire world I.

1781
01:29:44,960 --> 01:29:46,960
Think even me.
Raise your hand if you think

1782
01:29:46,960 --> 01:29:49,880
Majora's Mask is better than the
original Zelda on the NES.

1783
01:29:50,400 --> 01:29:53,440
OK, better than Four Swords.
All right, that's still the

1784
01:29:53,440 --> 01:29:54,920
three of us.
Derek, me and Rhode Island.

1785
01:29:54,920 --> 01:29:56,880
Rhode Island.
Then we got linked to the past.

1786
01:29:57,400 --> 01:30:00,600
Better than Link's Awakening.
OK, I'm looking at you.

1787
01:30:00,600 --> 01:30:02,960
Derrick Carter revealed he
thinks it's the best game of all

1788
01:30:02,960 --> 01:30:04,720
time.
All right, if you think it's

1789
01:30:04,720 --> 01:30:09,040
better than Ocarina of Time,
Dang, we didn't lose anybody.

1790
01:30:09,440 --> 01:30:13,640
We are in complete consensus.
The official old switcheroo best

1791
01:30:13,640 --> 01:30:17,320
Zelda game so far is Majora's
Mask.

1792
01:30:17,400 --> 01:30:20,480
Very, very cool.
I'm very excited for that and I

1793
01:30:20,480 --> 01:30:25,320
think it's well deserved.
So I think guys, with that,

1794
01:30:25,320 --> 01:30:27,320
we're going to call this game
over for today.

1795
01:30:27,320 --> 01:30:32,600
Let's declare the game as a
Nintendo or a Nintendo don't.

1796
01:30:33,960 --> 01:30:35,280
Let's start with Rhode Island.
Rhode Island.

1797
01:30:35,800 --> 01:30:42,880
It's 100% Nintendo for me if you
want to see where so much Zelda

1798
01:30:42,880 --> 01:30:47,040
comes from and and the story
behind this game is just as

1799
01:30:47,040 --> 01:30:50,160
impressive as the game itself.
It's it's really a story of

1800
01:30:50,760 --> 01:30:55,760
limitations can sometimes make
for better art than unlimited

1801
01:30:55,760 --> 01:30:58,400
resources, right?
They had one year to make this

1802
01:30:58,400 --> 01:31:03,040
game and somehow the reuse of
assets enhanced it.

1803
01:31:03,040 --> 01:31:06,480
It made it more narratively
fascinating.

1804
01:31:06,960 --> 01:31:10,200
It it fits in the category of
games as art, right, For the

1805
01:31:10,200 --> 01:31:14,320
context that it falls in, and
I'll never get away from that.

1806
01:31:14,320 --> 01:31:16,920
Although ironically, I think
it's Miyamoto who said a rushed

1807
01:31:16,920 --> 01:31:21,840
game is a bad game forever.
Yeah, it's a delayed game, but

1808
01:31:21,840 --> 01:31:26,960
ironically Majora a rushed game.
Absolutely legendary though.

1809
01:31:27,520 --> 01:31:30,800
So is it a Nintendo 64 in your
mind you?

1810
01:31:30,800 --> 01:31:36,320
Know, I think, I think so.
I think it's a Nintendo 64

1811
01:31:36,320 --> 01:31:41,960
purely because it is iconic.
It is exceptional.

1812
01:31:42,360 --> 01:31:45,480
It is Ocarina but better.
OK.

1813
01:31:45,640 --> 01:31:47,120
But I think Mike would disagree
with you.

1814
01:31:47,120 --> 01:31:51,720
Mike, can we go to you next?
Yeah, so I think with there's

1815
01:31:51,720 --> 01:31:56,680
parts in this where I kind of
keep wanting to like this, like

1816
01:31:56,680 --> 01:32:00,000
a lot of stuff that's the story
quests around town and all that,

1817
01:32:00,440 --> 01:32:03,080
that there's something there
that I want more of that.

1818
01:32:03,160 --> 01:32:07,320
And I kind of feel like the way
it handles time, not that it has

1819
01:32:07,320 --> 01:32:10,640
the time, but like the way it
handles it and the amount that

1820
01:32:11,320 --> 01:32:14,640
directs into things like
platforming and what I think are

1821
01:32:15,080 --> 01:32:18,680
poor directions rather than just
puzzles.

1822
01:32:19,240 --> 01:32:24,480
Like ultimately, like it was
always not fun as I was for me,

1823
01:32:24,480 --> 01:32:28,080
as I was trying to push through.
Like I didn't have the as much

1824
01:32:28,080 --> 01:32:31,920
of an exploration sense that
like the parts that I liked of

1825
01:32:31,920 --> 01:32:34,760
Ocarina of Time kind of kept
having the brakes slammed on it.

1826
01:32:35,320 --> 01:32:36,920
Yeah.
And so I think for me, it's a

1827
01:32:36,920 --> 01:32:39,400
Nintendo.
Well, Mike, we learned from the

1828
01:32:39,920 --> 01:32:42,960
to re re tarot reading that you
just want to be understood, and

1829
01:32:42,960 --> 01:32:44,640
I disagree, but I understand
you.

1830
01:32:46,800 --> 01:32:49,400
And I and I will add like kill
for warned us.

1831
01:32:49,400 --> 01:32:51,840
It's like there's a bear that
this can be a somewhat divisive

1832
01:32:51,840 --> 01:32:55,360
game in some regards.
And I've seen a couple other

1833
01:32:55,360 --> 01:32:57,800
things in the last weeks,
coincidentally, of people kind

1834
01:32:57,800 --> 01:32:59,280
of thing that same thing.
Like, yeah, I don't actually

1835
01:32:59,280 --> 01:33:03,960
like it because that loses what
made the previous one fun.

1836
01:33:03,960 --> 01:33:07,320
Like to me, I put it like, I
think Links Awakening and Link

1837
01:33:07,320 --> 01:33:09,280
to the Past are probably my
favorites are the ones we

1838
01:33:09,280 --> 01:33:12,520
played.
Yeah, you're a 2D top down boy.

1839
01:33:12,600 --> 01:33:15,400
Top down boy and.
I appreciate the hell out of you

1840
01:33:15,400 --> 01:33:18,840
for that.
Well, Derek, need it be said?

1841
01:33:19,400 --> 01:33:24,240
I mean is Nintendo Wii a
category like cuz I would jump

1842
01:33:24,360 --> 01:33:27,280
straight over Game 2.
You know like honestly, you know

1843
01:33:27,800 --> 01:33:30,320
I already sold you guys.
This is my favorite game of all

1844
01:33:30,320 --> 01:33:33,560
time, right?
I think that it it takes one of

1845
01:33:33,560 --> 01:33:36,000
the greatest games of all time,
The Legend of Zealot Green of

1846
01:33:36,000 --> 01:33:38,480
Time, and takes it to the next
level.

1847
01:33:38,480 --> 01:33:42,520
It just takes these, that game's
bones, quite literally.

1848
01:33:42,640 --> 01:33:46,640
It's using its assets and
reworks them in such a

1849
01:33:46,640 --> 01:33:50,560
fascinating, interesting way.
Like RE said, this game only

1850
01:33:50,560 --> 01:33:53,040
exists because of the
limitations that I'm no way like

1851
01:33:53,040 --> 01:33:55,120
advocating for crunch or saying
that was a good thing.

1852
01:33:55,320 --> 01:34:00,040
But in this situation, because
of this, these limitations that

1853
01:34:00,040 --> 01:34:03,920
were imposed on them, they had
to find a way to make great art.

1854
01:34:03,920 --> 01:34:07,880
It's like the shark in jaws when
you don't because the the shark

1855
01:34:07,880 --> 01:34:09,520
wouldn't work because you
couldn't see the shark.

1856
01:34:09,720 --> 01:34:12,480
It made it so much better and
they had them having this

1857
01:34:12,680 --> 01:34:15,960
smaller, you know, time to make
the game force them to make the

1858
01:34:15,960 --> 01:34:21,200
time loop the whole 3 day cycle
to make all like reusing all the

1859
01:34:21,200 --> 01:34:24,480
characters.
It it makes takes everything

1860
01:34:24,480 --> 01:34:26,760
from that first game and
elevates it.

1861
01:34:27,000 --> 01:34:31,880
And it like I said it, this is
the for me, greatest thing that

1862
01:34:31,880 --> 01:34:33,760
a video game can do.
It only can.

1863
01:34:33,760 --> 01:34:36,480
You can only do the things in a
video game that are done in this

1864
01:34:36,840 --> 01:34:39,720
game.
The side quests are are the

1865
01:34:39,720 --> 01:34:41,640
thing.
And you could not really do that

1866
01:34:41,640 --> 01:34:43,600
in a movie, right?
You could do that maybe in a

1867
01:34:43,600 --> 01:34:44,920
book if it was a choose your own
adventure.

1868
01:34:44,960 --> 01:34:48,720
That's the closest, I guess,
that you could come to this kind

1869
01:34:48,720 --> 01:34:51,640
of freedom where you're going to
be like, what does this person

1870
01:34:51,640 --> 01:34:52,440
do?
What does this person do?

1871
01:34:52,960 --> 01:34:56,680
It also just I love the the tone
and the vibes and the

1872
01:34:56,680 --> 01:35:00,240
atmosphere, even the little tiny
things that you don't even think

1873
01:35:00,240 --> 01:35:02,080
about like the soundtrack,
right?

1874
01:35:02,120 --> 01:35:07,320
The the sky boxes, how those
will change on day one to the

1875
01:35:07,320 --> 01:35:11,200
next day to the final day.
You'll have this very nice like

1876
01:35:11,520 --> 01:35:14,840
relaxing TuneIn in clock down
the first day, it gets a little

1877
01:35:14,840 --> 01:35:17,920
bit quicker in the second day of
third day, it's really quick and

1878
01:35:17,920 --> 01:35:19,200
chaotic.
It's all the same song, but it's

1879
01:35:19,400 --> 01:35:23,160
disoriented and and there's so
many things like that.

1880
01:35:23,320 --> 01:35:26,400
The way they implement all the
masks and the way that works

1881
01:35:26,400 --> 01:35:29,960
thematically.
This is just a master class for

1882
01:35:29,960 --> 01:35:32,760
me in terms of video game
design.

1883
01:35:33,200 --> 01:35:37,440
Yeah, I, I, I agree.
I think the gameplay variety,

1884
01:35:37,920 --> 01:35:41,560
it's unique plot, it's
unforgettable tone, I look

1885
01:35:41,560 --> 01:35:43,680
forward to playing it every time
I booted it up.

1886
01:35:43,680 --> 01:35:46,880
And being that it is a shorter
game in the series, this might

1887
01:35:46,880 --> 01:35:50,240
be one that I would revisit.
I mean, if they ever add 3DS

1888
01:35:50,240 --> 01:35:53,760
games to Nintendo classics, I
got to try it to see if Derek's

1889
01:35:53,760 --> 01:35:57,160
being crotchety or if the 3DS
remake really is that much

1890
01:35:57,160 --> 01:35:58,920
worse.
But like, you know, I think it's

1891
01:35:58,920 --> 01:36:02,760
saying a lot that this game, I
beat this game in like 29 hours

1892
01:36:02,800 --> 01:36:05,160
and I'd still play it again, you
know?

1893
01:36:05,320 --> 01:36:08,880
So Super Nintendo for me.
So with Derek saying that it's

1894
01:36:08,880 --> 01:36:12,160
basically built from the bones
of the previous game, are you

1895
01:36:12,160 --> 01:36:15,120
saying that even Majora's Mask,
like the other transformation

1896
01:36:15,120 --> 01:36:19,440
masks, isn't self a dead thing?
I was waiting for.

1897
01:36:19,440 --> 01:36:20,680
I was like, where's he going
with this one?

1898
01:36:21,520 --> 01:36:24,480
I don't know where he ended.
Up I I don't know about that,

1899
01:36:24,480 --> 01:36:28,160
but I do know that this Link
ends up a dead thing in the

1900
01:36:28,160 --> 01:36:29,600
timeline.
We didn't talk about the

1901
01:36:29,600 --> 01:36:35,440
timeline, but this hero ends up
training Twilight Princesses

1902
01:36:35,440 --> 01:36:40,200
Link as a dead as a dead hero to
continue the narrative.

1903
01:36:41,200 --> 01:36:44,000
That's dope.
Well, can I, can I give my

1904
01:36:44,000 --> 01:36:45,800
little?
I won't go too much into this

1905
01:36:45,800 --> 01:36:48,160
'cause I thought a lot about the
timeline and my whole thing with

1906
01:36:48,160 --> 01:36:53,160
the timeline is that it for me.
I think that these are legends.

1907
01:36:53,520 --> 01:36:55,000
They are.
I agree.

1908
01:36:55,520 --> 01:36:58,120
I agree.
I just for the record, for the

1909
01:36:58,120 --> 01:37:00,680
record, I completely agree.
These were Easter eggs that got

1910
01:37:00,720 --> 01:37:03,400
tied together in a way that's
weird and fun to talk about, but

1911
01:37:03,400 --> 01:37:06,440
it's not serious.
And yeah, the people get way to

1912
01:37:06,440 --> 01:37:08,720
when the timelines and the
timelines split and all that

1913
01:37:08,720 --> 01:37:09,680
stuff.
And it's like, well, you know

1914
01:37:09,680 --> 01:37:11,240
what?
The reason that Twilight

1915
01:37:11,240 --> 01:37:14,560
Princess and when Waker don't
work together is because they're

1916
01:37:14,560 --> 01:37:16,840
just different tellings of
different legends.

1917
01:37:17,040 --> 01:37:19,440
And the people telling those
legends both heard the legend of

1918
01:37:19,440 --> 01:37:22,200
Ocarina of Time and they both
told their different sequels.

1919
01:37:22,640 --> 01:37:25,000
It's almost like religions that
contradict each other.

1920
01:37:25,000 --> 01:37:27,400
And it's like, yeah.
Compared to religions, just like

1921
01:37:27,400 --> 01:37:29,360
the first Zelda, right Mike?
There you go there.

1922
01:37:30,040 --> 01:37:33,600
You go Yep, Yep.
Well, RiRi, Derek, thank you so

1923
01:37:33,600 --> 01:37:35,880
much for being here for the
launch of Season 4.

1924
01:37:35,880 --> 01:37:38,560
You both have been such a
pivotal part of this podcast, I

1925
01:37:38,560 --> 01:37:40,640
could not imagine doing it with
anyone else.

1926
01:37:40,960 --> 01:37:42,920
Before you get on out of here,
why don't you remind our

1927
01:37:42,920 --> 01:37:44,960
listeners where they can find
your stuff and anything else

1928
01:37:44,960 --> 01:37:46,680
you'd like to plug.
RiRi, can you go first?

1929
01:37:47,720 --> 01:37:50,920
Sure, my name is RiRi Yells.
I'm on twitch.

1930
01:37:51,160 --> 01:37:57,280
You can find me at RIRIYELLS
That's my my username.

1931
01:37:57,280 --> 01:38:04,080
So twitch.tv/R IRIYELLSI like
spooky games and indie games and

1932
01:38:04,080 --> 01:38:07,080
sometimes we play classics like
this or randomizers.

1933
01:38:07,120 --> 01:38:08,520
So drop on blind love to see
you.

1934
01:38:09,160 --> 01:38:11,040
Awesome.
And Derek, where can people find

1935
01:38:11,040 --> 01:38:14,360
the underrated movie, podcast
and the rest of your prolific

1936
01:38:14,360 --> 01:38:16,600
body of work?
Yeah, so if you just look up

1937
01:38:16,600 --> 01:38:19,000
Underrated Movie podcast,
however you're listening to

1938
01:38:19,000 --> 01:38:21,800
this, it will come up or go to
underratedmoviepodcast.com.

1939
01:38:22,280 --> 01:38:25,520
I, as you mentioned, do a couple
other things including the

1940
01:38:25,520 --> 01:38:27,600
podcast Infinity Stones and
Dragon Bones.

1941
01:38:27,920 --> 01:38:32,280
And I just want to shout out
that on December 15th, if you

1942
01:38:32,280 --> 01:38:36,800
want to hear Mike or Jamo talk
to me, you can listen to either

1943
01:38:36,800 --> 01:38:39,840
one because on December 15th, I
will be coming out with episodes

1944
01:38:39,840 --> 01:38:41,560
for both of you guys for both of
my shows.

1945
01:38:42,760 --> 01:38:45,920
Jamo is going to be talking
about Fred Klaus, as I alluded

1946
01:38:45,920 --> 01:38:49,840
to with me on Underrated and
Mike on the Patreon feed is I'm

1947
01:38:49,840 --> 01:38:53,320
going to be doing a bonus
episode of Infinity Stones and

1948
01:38:53,320 --> 01:38:55,840
Dragon Bones talking about
Blade.

1949
01:38:55,960 --> 01:38:59,880
So you can listen to either of
these hosts come talk to me on

1950
01:38:59,880 --> 01:39:02,960
both either one of my podcasts.
And I do a bunch of other

1951
01:39:02,960 --> 01:39:04,760
podcast stuff, but those are the
main ones.

1952
01:39:04,760 --> 01:39:06,560
Infinity Stones, Dragon Bones,
Underrated.

1953
01:39:06,560 --> 01:39:09,640
And then I also have the Patreon
where you can find that episode.

1954
01:39:10,480 --> 01:39:13,680
Patron, it's totally worth.
It it's so much fun.

1955
01:39:13,680 --> 01:39:18,080
There's J MO content in there as
well, So you know what we got to

1956
01:39:18,080 --> 01:39:21,240
do it then if that's releasing
on the same day, listen to both

1957
01:39:21,240 --> 01:39:22,720
and then chime in on the
Discord.

1958
01:39:22,720 --> 01:39:25,480
Who did it better Mike versus J
MO.

1959
01:39:25,720 --> 01:39:28,600
We're facing off you.
There can be, there can be only

1960
01:39:28,600 --> 01:39:30,680
one, but you know, that means
people have to subscribe to your

1961
01:39:30,680 --> 01:39:35,120
Patreon songs.
And those episodes at the time

1962
01:39:35,120 --> 01:39:37,200
that you were listening to this
are already available.

1963
01:39:37,480 --> 01:39:39,320
Perfect.
There we go.

1964
01:39:39,960 --> 01:39:42,840
All right, well that sounds
northeast excellent.

1965
01:39:42,880 --> 01:39:46,120
Everyone join us next time and
we are going to be doing odd

1966
01:39:46,120 --> 01:39:50,600
jobs around the house in the
adorable Chibi Robo for the

1967
01:39:50,680 --> 01:39:53,840
GameCube.
Also, don't forget to visit

1968
01:39:53,840 --> 01:39:57,760
www.theoldswitcharoo.com where
you can find links to our

1969
01:39:57,760 --> 01:40:01,360
Spotify, our Discord, YouTube,
TikTok, and all the social

1970
01:40:01,360 --> 01:40:03,400
medias you can shake a joystick
at.

1971
01:40:03,920 --> 01:40:06,400
Big thanks to Crystal Fields for
our incredible intro song.

1972
01:40:06,400 --> 01:40:09,240
And please dear listener, don't
forget to like and subscribe.

1973
01:40:09,440 --> 01:40:12,160
Every click means a lot and you
mean a lot to us.

1974
01:40:12,440 --> 01:40:15,040
Until next time, this has been
the old switcheroo where we've

1975
01:40:15,040 --> 01:40:17,240
been talking gaming retro with
Mike and Jamo.

1976
01:40:17,520 --> 01:40:20,720
I've been Mike.
And Ivan Jamo game on, everyone.

1977
01:40:33,360 --> 01:40:34,800
Mike, you're someone to play the
sound effects.

1978
01:40:35,160 --> 01:40:37,880
You like to and then I just
remove them, so go forward.

1979
01:40:37,880 --> 01:40:43,720
You're gonna press the button.
All right?

1980
01:40:43,720 --> 01:40:45,040
I'm gonna have to cut this whole
segment.

1981
01:40:45,240 --> 01:40:46,840
No, no, keep it in.
Keep it in.

1982
01:40:46,840 --> 01:40:49,320
The people need to know.
You know they don't.
