Game Listings

There's over 250 games currently available on Nintendo Switch Online across the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, and GameCube as part of the Nintendo Classics catalog. Here you can find all the games that we've covered on The Old SwitchAroo, and which episodes they featured in. In some cases, release year may refer to a regional release or a release on a similar system, such as the Nintendo Famicom.

Italics indicate a few games that we played on the Nintendo Switch on stand-alone games rather than as part of Nintendo Classics and underlined games were on the Nintendo Classics service but have since been removed (so far this only applies to Super Soccer, which was covered only on YouTube).

Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)

Nintendo's Famicom (Family Computer) was released in Japan in June of 1983. Two years later, in late 1985, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) saw its first release when it became available in select markets in North America. Many of the launch titles, and many of the games that would later be released, were games that first appeared in Japan on the Famicom. Some games never were released on the NES, but were on the Famicom in Japan or on the Nintendo VS system, which also used the same hardware as the Famicom and NES, but were two-player arcade machines.

Nintendo Game Boy

The Nintendo Game Boy was first released in Japan in April 1989, but subsequent releases included North America a few months later and Europe by late 1990. The handheld would be upgraded in 1998 as the Game Boy Color, and the Game Boy / Game Boy Color stands as the fourth best-selling video game console. The Game Boy Color was designed to not just play older Game Boy games, but often to add the right colours to some of the brand's most iconic characters.

For reasons beyond everyone's understanding, 1995's Nintendo Virtual Boy, Nintendo's first foray into a 3D console, has become the most recent announced addition to Nintendo Classics, as it will be added in 2026 to the Nintendo Switch Online service. The Old SwitchAroo episodes for the Virtual Boy will be coming, because if they'll release it, we'll play it.

Nintendo 64 (N64)

The Nintendo 64 was first released in Japan and North America in 1996 followed by a release in Europe the subsequent year, bringing Nintendo into the era of 64-bit gaming.

The first Nintendo console to be released in the 21st century, the Nintendo GameCube was released in Japan and North America in 2001 and in Europe and Australia the following year. One other major milestone with this sixth-generation console was that it was the first Nintendo console to change from ROM cartridges to optical discs. The GameCube made its debut in the Nintendo Classics collection with the release of the Switch 2 in 2025. The Old SwitchAroo episodes for the GameCube currently TBA.
